That was an outstanding post. Thanks for sharing and that pic in the San Jose garage made me raise my Dos Equis in appreciation. Stay thirsty my friend!

I don't know how I missed this thread Dave. Man, what I would give to run some of the roads on that trip. And, as others said, made me proud to be an American. BTW, definitely was thinking of you on our M5army run yesterday...thanks for all the local knowledge

Great photo journal and a narration of your entire journey. I hope I will have the privilege of doing the same road trip and being able to appreciate all the beautiful sights you saw.

Question, did you bring your detailing stuff with you? Your car is always clean! How much detailing stuff did you bring?

Did you do any laps at laguna seca? That would have by far been the best section and some have said his first words were nurburgring. If no laguna laps, some were wrong!

Good road trip. I would have taken the shortcut

I practically had a mobile detailing shop in my trunk for the trip. I also found a car wash almost every day on the trip. At one point when I was in the middle of no where Wyoming, I stumbled upon a self service car wash and made a pit stop where I washed and detailed my M5 for over an hour. After I was done I drove another 300 miles. Lol! But I basically used Optimum No Rinse Concentrate 128oz bottle and mixed it with plain water to make my own quick detailer throughout the trip. I spent about $80 bucks in microfiber towels and other cleaning clothes before I left too. I cleaned off the front bumper usually twice a day. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it!

Wow man great thread! Sounds like it was an amazing experience! I plan to do something crazy on my next car, maybe ED then have it delivered to Cali and roadtrip back to DC.

I feel bad for you having to live in the city with the M5. For the most part this is a terrible city/area for driving/ but there are some great spots not too far. I live in McLean, which has some pretty good roads, but Great Falls Is where its at. Just make sure you have that radar handy because like you said the cops around here a nazi's. If you want a longer drive to stretch you babies legs, drive past Skyline drive and head toward NC, its an amazing drive(once you get out of Skylines traffic). You will also have the ability to take the Blueridge parkway when out there, which is also amazing. But as Top Gear said, It would be the best road in the world had it not been for the speed limit.(radar for sure). Next time you go to NC and are looking for a back way in that would also be a great choice.

awesome write up! Welcome to DC. You wouldn't by chance have come to the Crystal City area? I saw the exact color M5 parked outside of the Potbelly's/Mortons on Crystal Drive last week and took a pic.

Thanks for sharing your story with us! One day I will be taking my E92 M3 on a similar trip (hopefully). Anyways, I couldnt help but notice your BMW LI jammers installed there in the grill, looks great btw! However, it seemed like you got some good use of them between Illinois and Florence. Would you recommend the LI's, and how hard was the install? Thanks again for sharing!
