Carrera S or M5

I'm undecided between a Porsche 911S or an M5. I have driven both cars and both were amazing machines but now it's time for me to decide on which car to pick.

The car is going to be my DD. Anyone who has both or had one of them can help me with this?

Only if you get the Turbo S, will it be worth it over the M5.

oh back on topic- I recently just picked up a C4S and this was my comparo to my Black Series. The Black Series and the M5 are not apples to apples but these are my initial thoughts on both cars. The M5 will have its deficiencies and advantages vs the BS and no doubt against the C2S as well.

I think the M5 compared to a 991 C2S is tough one- different cars with different purposes.

Quote:
2 different cars that actually serve the same purpose; driveability. The BS is the tq beast with a low down exhaust note and heavy hp to get it done. Its chassis is excellent but the suspension really creates the monster in turns and high speed bends. The NA engine gets the car moving asap. I cant say a bad thing about this car. The down shift barks are spectacular here; violent and loud. The power can really let you get the rear loose if you want; its fun!!! The car is a beast. A hammer.
The 991 C4S gets the job done via lighter weight and a better tranny all day. I swear the 400 hp is almost as much as the 510 hp on the BS when we talk about effective whp. The car just moves, but you need to be in the higher rpm range. Its not a tq beast at all- its a drivers car that really asks you to drive the car. No mash and go here gents- but when you rock it you know you have earned it. The 991 chassis is amazing, the engine is considered more of a mid engine mount now vs the 996 and 997's I have had and you can feel in it the straights and turns. The car is entirely neutral and you have zero fear of tossing it around. The days of a having a light front end at triple digit speeds has exited with this chassis. The exhaust is more of an exotic note with Porsche Sport Exhaust system screaming from 5k to 8k and when you downshift the burbles are awesome. This car is a stealthy killer. A scalpel.
Both are great cars that would serve any of us well. The interior of the Pcar is ahead of the BS with more creature comforts and amenities. Im amazed that a 400 hp car moves this fast. The tq of the BS may create a faster feel down low but the pdk and higher reving 991 makes that car feel faster up top. I got a C4S so the AWD system does pull back some of the power up top but thats fine; I wanted that wide body!!!!

Totally agree on that one. Man I had an awesome time driving the S. Push the power button on that one and it really starts to sing. The c4s is no joke either.

GT3 !

i priced out the carrera s, and with the options i want (PDK, power kit, sport chrono package, sport exhaust and sport design package), its like $2000 less than the gt3!!! and the gt3 comes with all this standard. (essentially)

but with 50 more HP in the GT3!

thats like 100 hp in m5 terms. lol

can you imagine that carrera s with an extra 75 HP???

are you kidding?

0-60 in 3.3 seconds.
0-100 in 7.5 seconds!

and a 9000 rpm redline.

and supposedly the ride quality is leagues better than the previous gt3 as well.

no brainer.

Not to thread jack, But I have a random question. The New GT3 looks sick and seems to have a lot of people talking. What's the big difference between the GT3 and Turbo S 911? I see the turbo S is more $ and a little faster. Is the GT3 just more of a "race" car version?

NA vs Turbo
RWD vs AWD
Track car vs GTR
Drivers car vs poseur (there I said it)

Yeah the GT3 is the version essentially built for the track. It is iconically Porsche's highest fastest model. The Turbo has more luxury, has a more comfortable ride than the GT3, but boasts like 560hp compared to the GT3's 475hp.

Exactly, everyone thinks they can just walk into a porsche dealer and get their order in.... and then they want to lease it and get the same residuals as the 991 c2s at 24 months (75%).

Oh and then the pricing, the GT3 is an msrp car if not more (if on the ground) and the 991 can be had for 10k off if you work it.

but just the amazing reviews make me want to push for the gt3. i was at the dealership the other day and im pretty sure they told me i could order one if i wanted. there were loads of carrera s's there.

eeven if you could get 10k off the s. i think the value of the gt3 is still better considering is comes standard with the PDK, sport exhaust, powerkit; 30 hp + another 50!

Oh no doubt--- its just finding one that you can actually get--- order allocations are gone and the ones that are on the ground or order cancels will have the beastly markups.

dont forget the 9000 rpm redline and the superior sound, due to the lack of turbos muffling everything.

GT3 all the way. Like any brand new sought after vehicle, especially halo versions, we need to apply Vic's rule of pay to play

I am hoping to do an ED on a Cayenne GTS for the wife in the spring and, if it is worth it look for an ED on a GT3 in late 2015. No reason to have a SUV and a sedan...I can DD a GT3 no problem!

Certainly call your dealer and try to order one.

I've been on the list for a while and my build date is currently mid 2014

I've driven both extensively. I can tell you the 991 is more fun when driven the correct way; at its limits.

The M5 is fun more of the time under its limits because of all the power it has.

Also consider the M5s practicality. If practicality isn't an issue for you, jump on the 991 now!
