stupid question about coding, but i must ask it

is it possible to disable any critical safety features with coding, e.g., airbags, anti-lock brakes, etc.? i don't want to do this obviously, but am worried about the possibility. thanks.

You can't accidentally disable these features. You can deliberately disable the seatbelt warning for sure.

Also the software is segmented into modules for different functions. So if you are coding only the iDrive and the HUD then you should be safe. I don't code any systems which are related to the operation of the machine.

As Stealth said the coding assume you're (somewhat) responsible and don't do stupid things.
By just using the coding function it is unlikely you'll "brick" the car but you can disable some
safety features which have been put in place for a good reason.
If you would use e-sys to actually update the FW for modules there's a higher likehood for you to actually brick the individual module or leave the car inoperable (hence this particular procedure is not documented for general use).
