2015 M5..AWD???

Given the buzz with the Audi RS-7, MB E-63 S, CLS63 AWD offerings and M5 low speed traction issues. How far off in the future is the AWD variant of of the M5 from production. I realize BMW stated it is being mulled over but money talks and sales will be lost in the colder regions globally to high performance sedan enthusiasts to AWD competitors. I agree with almost every owner of the F10 M5 that rear wheel drive is far more suitable and thrilling
for the enthusiast and in controlled conditions it is a blast to drift the beast but sooner or later it AWD or option for AWD will arise. Question to the forum do you think it will arrive for the F10 platform or in the next gen M5 as BMW indicated may happen? Nothing but speculation but if it is offered for the F10 leasing rather than purchasing would seem to be the best route. So what do you think?

AWD M5 ... that would certainly be in the next gen. LCI is already out and BMW already started testing the next gen and would not waste any more resources on the current gen, given it only has another 3 yrs to last.

AWD is an inevitability.

I'm very interested in an AWD M5. I don't think it will happen for reasons stated with the F10. I'm thinking my 13 M5 will be ready to trade on the next gen with AWD. That said, I'd probably still get the next gen M5 even if AWD is not an option.

Next gen. However if the AWD doesn't make it to right hand drive markets not sure i will buy it as any power and torque increases wouldn't be usable in regular driving. Would be time to go RS6 I think.

I am sure the next M5 will be offered in AWD. I personally am very disappointed, a bmw M car is not supposed to be AWD. Rear wheel drive for the win.

BMW has repeatedly stated they plan to stay RWD but I think we will see AWD in the next gen. Right, wrong, or indifferent...there is just too much marketing emphasis and strength on 0-60 times and BMW will otherwise never be able to compete with the low 3's the AWD e63s are doing now.

BMW M has stated that AWD may be an option in the next generation M5/M6

It won't happen on the F10M5. Likely on the G10M5.

Even if BMW loses sales in the near term, the M5 is such a low volume car it doesn't make sense to reengineer and re-tool mid cycle especially post-LCI. In other words, yes BMW may lose sales, but it's trivial.

I'm all for AWD, point and go style of driving with little drama. "Fun" factor is not so fun when you're on edge. I don't ever see myself enabling MDM or full dsc off on public roads.

Like to see AWD + weight reduction + even more tq. HP is already enough, in my view.
