We may own the cars, but since possession is 9 10ths of the law as they say, I don't think we have any choice in the matter. Certainly is intriguing from a legal standpoint, though. I guess we ED'rs could demand delivery of our unrepaired car and BMW could, in turn, void warranty. Checkmate...

I hear you on the 9/10th of the law. My comment was terse, so I'll explain further. I was not suggesting they complete delivery so that I could drive it away. My sole focus on where the cars would be held until the replacement pumps are available is protection from the elements. New cars from the factory have a protective film applied to the horizontal surfaces. Our ED cars do not. If our cars would have had to sit outside waiting for the pumps, I may have considered having my dealer pick it up so that it could be stored indoors until the new pumps were available.

The flip side is I think we're better off having the pumps replaced at the VPC by BMW technicians (as opposed to the dealer's technicians). It may be splitting hairs, but I feel like with the technicians at the VPC doing the work we have a lesser chance of a mistake and higher accountability to BMW.

i think when it clears customs you will see a "1" in the status quantity column next to it. i did a search and that was the consensus from others that have seen this during there redelivery.

I believe you are cleared. Now we have to figure out how to track our oil pumps. Good luck Sam.

I emailed my dealer and he told me that it doesnt show in his system that the vehicle has been released to the VPC which means it hasnt cleared customs yet. I am hoping that their systems are just slow.

Thanks for the info Art! Hoping we knew about those oil pumps.

If the VDC has the car I believe that means it cleared customs.

Here's my take (also just a guess, but it kills sometime waiting for our cars!):

- "Customes release"; I read an article about the VDC, and it said the customs release happens while the cars are still on the boat (i.e., the paperwork part; the physical inspection happens later at the port) - presumably once the ship enters US waters?

- "Liner Release"; could occur at docking when the bill of lading for the car is transferred from WW to whomever it it that unloads the cars from the ship.

- "Discharged"; time when the car was actually off-loaded from the ship.

- "Delivered from"; might be when the car was received into customs.

Again, all this is just my guess. But I think there is less than a 1% chance that the "Discharged" or "Delivered from" entries that popped up today mean the car has cleared customs - way too quick for that to happen from what I've heard about the process. But hey, you never know.

Ok, now that a bunch of our ED cars are at the VDC, I'm thinking the first oil pumps coming over will be delivered there (on 10/1, according to the latest 9/28 info). Given it is a 2-3 hour job, with a couple of days of buffer for pump delivery and install, would it not be unreasonable to have at least some of our cars, like the Ohio group, loaded up by the end of the week with deliveries in the week of Oct 8th?

By the way guys, another thing I learned today is that my guess at was these log entries mean was actually fairly accurate.

Nope. The Delivered from means it was delivered from the boat to the customs area. Likely still in customs.

Any of you Ohio guys thinking of trying to make the DE at MidOhio on Oct 19-21? Could be close, given the need for more break-in time and servicing....I need to get in 700 miles before servicing.
