Megan Exhaust

Has anyone installed or heard this? Obviously a significantly lower price, but a friend ran one on his e92 and said the quality and sound were surprisingly good. I wouldn't expect Akra build quality, but I also don't think they are expecting comparable margins either.

For that price it might be worth rolling the dice.

can't go wrong spending $600 with install,

only thing is if you plan on selling your exhaust that whole exhaust is one pc, and the value depreciates but if you plan on keeping it, i guess you can do whatever,

keep us posted for Videos if you choose Megan's Route.

I recall when I had my Infiniti (pre-M5 days) that a lot of guys ran Megan on them and really like them. I don't recall any complaints about build quality.

I believe this video link is of the exhaust in question:

yes that's the video they linked me too as well. I'm thinking it will be quieter than Meisterschaft or Eisenmann which is OK with me and what I use the car for.

I had the Megan on my E92 and it sounded awesome. I was constantly getting compliments on it. That particular Megan axle back was a Chinese knock off of an actual high end exhaust (don't recall exactly which but think it may have been the Akra). The Megan was supposedly built in the same factory in China but just branded as Megan. And obviously Megan could sell it for dirt cheap since they had zero R&D cost.

I don't know what the story is with the M5 Megan muffler but if Megan had something out when I bought my current Turner muffler I would have tried it for sure.

Car in the video clearly has DP's. Anyone hear these muffler's without DP's? I was not thinking about exhaust at all really, but at this price that does not include the "luxury tax" we all normally pay, it gets tempting. I am assuming you lose the flap that opens and closes also correct? Not that it matters much....

We sell a good number of these exhausts and i have to say for the price, you cannot get a better deal.
Dont expect a GThaus finish quality or sound but these exhausts have a very good finish quality and the sound is a good upgrade over stock.
If you are on a budget and are looking for an upgrade over stock without it being too loud, Megan would be the way to go.

Breathing a little life back into this thread...

I had a few more questions about the Megan mufflers.... I have catless downpipes and my muffler delete (drone and cold start) is a little too much for a soon to arrive newborn. I'm wanting to control sound a bit at the same time I'm trying to not decrease power more than I have to... which is why the OEM mufflers are not an option.

That said, has anyone documented, seen or know of the (if any) power gains from these over the stock mufflers?

For those who have this exhaust... I'm sure the noise is relatively subdued which is what I'm personally looking for. Do these drone much with and without downpipes? Also, are the cold starts ridiculous? With my current setup, I actually have to get in the car and keep the garage door closed bc it is LOUD AF during the cold start cycle.

Get a tune to remove cold start.

Also, if you can get Eisenmann Sport or Akra at a good price I would do that. Or put the stock mufflers back as they sound decent with downpipes. I had stock downpipes with muffler delete and the cold start was way too loud for my neighborhood, not to mention my sleeping baby. Since I got a tune with cold start delete and Eisenmann I haven't been happier about a set up. It's a perfect balance between stock and straight pipes. If I want to go louder I can switch to E-Race or remove the resonators up front.

I had Megan on a previous car a few years ago and found the quality and sound lacking (cheap, poor fitment, droned, etc). I, personally, would never use Megan or any knock off exhaust on an M5.

Thanks for the information... the problem is the car was tuned by DME tuning which I believe is on the East Coast. I'm just learning about these cars but the ecu was removed and mailed out for the tune to be done. The tuner is telling me that it can't be remotely tuned. FML Is this true? Anyway that I can "code" the cold start out?

No, you'd have to send them again or find a local tuner. I think Raza@RKAutowerks is in Houston, but you'd have to verify.

Or you can see about getting bootmod3 then choosing your tuner. Bootmod3 comes with a back end flash that is strong and runs great. DME can access your DME's via bootmod3 and custom load his tune... HCP can do the same.
