It's good to vent and a shame you can't condense. Good luck with the repair.

Yea, what's up with that. I would have them put me in an x5 or 740i. You need to complain to the GM or BMW NA.

apparently the condenser shortage is affecting all the 5 series so I'm trying to be calm about this. however I was told the part was in and then as I was sitting with the SA I was told they didn't realize the m5 has a unique condenser and still don't have the part. now I'm in a 320 x drive loaner trying to not seriously lose my shit after 6 weeks.

Damn that's BS. As a person living in the Southeast in summer you have my sympathies. No way I could drive a car here and be presentable at work.

My condenser went too earlier this year. 5 days before my warranty expired. Fortunately they had enough in stock and it was fixed a couple of days later.

I feel for you guys. No air con is unsatisfactory.

I wonder if these condensers are a weakness ?

called BMW NA

-they don't handle part requests, or expediting of part requests so we remain at the mercy of the parts manager and general manager and their influence on getting the parts in.

-however, if you as the consumer feel that the vehicle is not driveable under a satisfactory condition, you can argue the case for potential reimbursement.

-since there is no ETA on the condenser, I guess I wait this out and see how it plays out.

Thanks for mentioning this; mine goes in for initial investigation next week.

If it is condenser, I was quoted 6-8 weeks, but that is UK, NA is likely to have a different delay and not necessary less. Hope you get your car back soon as you're already 6 weeks in.

At least the delays are not as bad as 2014; several UK F10 owners reported several months to get a condenser!

Sorry to hear OP

We are actually needing our AC's (for once) in the Pacific NW. 90 deg + this weekend so I can only imagine.

Does anyone have any idea what th cost would be to replace the condenser out of warranty?

I'm reviving this thread due to my M5 being in the shop for the same reason. My M5 is out of warranty now and wanted to know the same thing as how much am I looking at in replacing the condenser out of pocket?

I am getting warmer air on the driver side and "cooler" air on the passenger side.

Thanks

I feel your pain,...my very first BMW,...a '79 320i did not have a/c! From then on,..I swore I'd never buy another vehicle that didn't have a properly working A/C system! Try rolling through Arizona in June without a/c! The temp was 112-degrees @ 10:am inside the car!

Take away the heat,...and it was a joy to drive!

Good luck with your a/c.

My condenser had a leak earlier this year and was replaced. My SA in Houston mentioned it was a common issue with the F10. I think the replacement part is a slightly different design that's on newer F10s that should be more durable. My car was a 02/14 build FWIW.

Hey guys,

Does anybody know how these condensers are failing?
Is it due to a rock impact through the grill, or a weld seam failing, or just random failures?

Thanks,
Dave
