So pleased I DIDN'T get the Comp Pack

Now that I've had the car for a week as my daily driver... My suspicion and instinct were correct. The Comp Pack prob would have been a bit too harsh for my personal preference for a daily driver.

While I would have appreciated the reduced wheel gap, which the front needs BADLY!... I believe the firmer ride would have put it just over the edge for me.

As it is, I prefer to keep it on the 'Comfort' suspension setting for most of my daily driving. And even that can be a bit rough when on some of these shitty Northeast roads. Then, when I know I'm going to push it, I use the firmer settings via the M buttons.

For me, the ride (in all the levels) is JUST RIGHT. A bit more firm...too much. A bit more soft...not enough. So the bottom line...VERY pleased with the vehicle and the way i configured it.

I must say, after my car went into production and reading the reviews and debates on Std vs CP... I was a bit worried. And I could see if I was going to push the car to it's limits more often, I'd want the CP. But for a true DD, it's perfect for me. Perfect balance of luxury and sport.

My suggestion to anyone who def wants a semi-soft ride, try to test drive both the standard and the CP car and make the right choice for you.

Being originally from NYC I would agree the comp pkg would be tough to deal with as a DD.

Here in FL the roads may not be that entertaining but they are flat and smooth. I drive on sport mode as DD. Feels good; not harsh

I had a 2013, and my 2014 has CP... I much prefer the CP, but I drive aggressively.

I can see how on bad roads it could be rough. Luckily, we have pretty nice roads out here in Arizona. I actually think the comp package is quite comfortable.

Of course, I am coming from an E90 M3 which felt much more firm.

I agree with you on everything on this topic, but one... I don't want or need the car lower at all. Heck, I'm a 48 year old man. I don't need this thing dropped down like some kid in Miami with huge wheels, little rubber band tires around them, and the car "slammed" as these kids like them...with hip hop blaring from the stereo... No thanks. The entire reason I bought the car was to inject to civility into my speed...

I def hear ya. I don't like the 'slammed' look either. But I do think the front wheel well gap should be reduced to match the rear. Not slammed... Just 'tailored'. Similar to how when I was in my 20's I wore tight shirts... Now I wear bespoke tailored shirts. Same goes for the wheel well in how it 'wraps' the tire and wheel.

This is very helpful. I have driven compM6 and non comp M6. Non comp felt much much better.

Ok, i hardly think the comp pack "slammed" the car at all. The drop is really not that much. The only thing in the comp pack i fancy is the new steering rack!

Excellent point on the steering rack also don't forget revised or retuned active rear diff. Cant compare to non comp pkg F10 M5 but we need all the traction we can get. I can tell you however this is miles advanced compared to my prior Merc CLS63

I had a 2013 M5 and now have a 2014 M5 CP. The CP car is just better in every way. Looks better with the slight drop, ride is more compliant, bit of extra power is appreciated and exhaust sounds a tad better...no brainer for me.

I am approaching 300mi on my car and find myself switching back and forth between comfort and sport. In the e92 m3 I drove in normal 99% of the time (sport/normal/comfort). Comfort in the m5 seems a bit too soft and there is more body roll than sport. I did run over one of those huge steel plates the other day that a road crew surprised me with in sport, slowed just in time in the early morning darkness. If I was in the northeast hitting plates and pot holes all the time comfort would be my setting of choice.

I like having my car look stock and with the comp package, I get a lowered ride, black exhaust, and 601 wheels to give it a distinct look without looking aftermarket. I live in SF, where the roads are not great, but in comfort mode the car is compliant and comfortable.

It was your pics that had me considering Singapore Gray and the 601's. I love that one photo at the damn(?) where it's taken from the rear passenger side at an angle. Or when you're parked on the street at the beach(?) and you got it from the front. Gorgeous car bud!

KW Height Adjustable Spring kit. Yes, it is replacing the OEM springs, but it's a very nice upgrade, and you can choose the ride height

Agreed 100%. Its just enough to make it special without going over board. I love to mod my cars but after a while you end up losing functionality for aesthetics. The CP gives you just enough to make the car different wihtout compromising for anything. It also makes it more versatile for track duty.

Yes, I always drove mine in comfort anyway. I will continue to especially now that I have the 911 because that car is tight and low. It's feel is very close to the ground and it feels very light. The M5 cannot get that with a few suspension changes and most certainly doesn't with the sport setting offered. The car rides high and is heavy. It's not a sports car, it's a fast luxury car. I guess you can drive it as a sport car and mod it that way but it isn't one. Now if I get in the M5 after driving the Cayenne, the M5 feels low and light by comparison. So it's a matter of perspective. If you want to feel like you are in a sports car then drive the wife's SUV for a while then get back in the M5, cheap way to solve the problem without expensive mods.

The biggest issue for me is that I like the 911 so much I am not driving the M5.

Thanks for the suggestion. Other than being able to adjust the ride height (which I really want), does it improve/change ride quality at all?
