Are you talking about a rare and VERY slight howling sound that can
barely can be heard? If so I've had it a few times and it comes and goes for no apparent reason and I'm wondering about the same thing.

I do as well. I took my car to the dealer and they told me they have to replace the driver side mirror. Apparently its a "known issue"

Hello F10 M5 Owners!

Like many of you, I've noticed a horribly annoying wind noise from my F10 M5 at 40-43 MPH. The issue puzzled me: At lower speeds, the cabin is sterile quiet; at higher speeds the cabin is quiet; yet, at exactly 41 MPH, there is a pitchy wind noise coming from just outside the window.

I started noticing the wind noise around 700 miles. At the 1200 mile service, I confirmed with a BMW tech that the noise is not normal. However, I did not have time for the BMW dealership to fiddle with the issue.

Therefore, I took this morning at my dealership (yes, I'm the owner and general manager of Wellesley Toyota in Wellesley, MA) to fiddle with the issue. With my interior specialist technician Justin Delveccio, we tried all the solutions posted on M5post.com and M5board.com: 1) installed rubber in gaps along the window gasket 2) Taped off all the door jams and windows to try to isolate the wind 3) lubricated door jams, 4) taped off all gaps along the doors, etc.

After 6-7 road tests, NOTHING WORKED! I thought, "it must be the lighter glass, and perhaps this is just the way that it is," but it never made sense to me that the passenger side was quiet as a clam. I was about to throw in the towel, but Justin said, let's try one more thing...

We looked to TOYOTA. The Toyota Avalon had a bulletin that the mirrors would create a whistle, turbulent noise around the perpendicular seam where the two plastic pieces come together, and the solution was to exchange the mirrors with a smaller seam. My technician Justin suggested that we tape-off the seam around the exterior mirror to see if that would eliminate the whistle noise. VOILA! IT WORKED!

Until I can convince the BMW dealership to replace the mirror, I will be driving it with blue painters tape attached. But at least the noise is gone!

I hope this helps any of you may be experiencing this problem. And yes, as much as I love Toyota, I enjoy the drive of the M5s.

I havent had mine fixed yet. The SA told me it would take at least ten days for the mirror to arrive. We had major snow headed our way so I told them I would have it fixed in the Spring

I got the howl too. Took it to service, they told me it was a known issue and applied tape to the inside of the mirror housing. That actually made it worse. Have to go back and try again.

1. Rear clunk
2. Driver's side wind howl
3. Sunroof creaking

So does anyone have an actual bulletin number for this? I'm going in for the rear clunk fix and I'd like to kill two birds with one stone, but my SA claims he doesn't know anything about the wind noise issue coming from the mirror...even though it's clearly audible.
