Whats up with rotor prices?
I am in need of full rotors and pads so I started looking. I noticed a few different brands but what caught my eye was the SHW price difference.
For Example: https://eeuroparts.com/product/shw-p...xdac1gdpAFYmC0 This is a set of SHW rotors only for $1,194.95. Note: It says 400/400mm which I believe the rear are supposed to be 396. So I wonder if this is just a mistake? Then we have this kit: https://eeuroparts.com/product/oem/4118858KIT Which is SHW rotors, pads, and sensors for $1,091.95. These say 400/396mm which is correct but it also says this kit is for cars with Competition package which I didn't think they were different? Just weird that a full kit with pads would be less. Can anyone confirm that 400mm is wrong for the rears? And that no difference between competition vs non comp? |

I’ve noticed the price has dropped on rotors as well I need to change mine desperately as they’re like a whole mil below the min specs now and feel super thin. I see they’re only like $600 online now for the fronts that’s so much cheaper then they used to be just a couple months ago.

For sure they're still not cheap, maybe some could provide feedback if they are not buying originals, on how the braking is with these other rotors.

1.5yrs back I decided I was totally done with the excessive black brake dust of the OEM pads. Not to mention that annoying brake squeal at low speeds. Every German car I’ve owned is just the same. I still had plenty of pad life left though, I’m real easy on the brakes. I planned to wait till the pads were done, but I had enough.
I thought this would be an easy, cheap fix. Decided to go for Powerstop Z23s. I then realized my rotors were below spec. Man, if I ever told anyone I know that I was willing to shell out all this $$ over brake dust, they’d think I’m nuts. But I’m sure that those of you on here who don’t have black color wheels will understand the pain. I considered the “non-//M” rotors. But, as stupid as it sounds, I like that little //M stamp on there. It’s just something that just stands out to me every time I look at the car. I just felt that if I didn’t go for the same look, I’d regret it later. So I shopped around for a few wks and snagged a killer deal! Genuine BMW/Mini Parts website had them at around $380 front, $278 rear. Free shipping, total came out to a bit over $1300 for all 4 shipped. Zimmermans could be had about $100 less, but getting Genuine OEM at that price, couldn’t say no. Installed everything myself, (thanks YouTube!) had a Indy shop handle the brake fluid flush with OEM. So I saved a TON over a stealership doing the same. Just as people have said, the Z23’s have less initial bite (maybe about 20% less) but definitely have no problem at all on firm braking or at high speed. Pretty much same as OEM. But there is a world of difference with dust. Probably about 75% less. So that makes it worth it. And I retained that trivial //M stamp that only I would notice, Lol.

I read on another thread (not Bp) that Corvette C7 floating rotors are around $100 each?, the trouble with M5's and M5 E60's is that the limited numbers mean much fewer parts and suppliers charging Monaco type prices for the pleasure of getting them, it's not clear how the centre hat and rotor are assembled and it looks to me like extra labour is involved due to the radial design.

I just bought a set of the SHW ones on eBay for $860 or something for the front rotors with a set of pads I’m gonna install them soon I’ll let you know how it goes. They look just like the originals super high quality.
