during break-in period...less HP?

Hi guys,

My BMW dealership is telling me that my M5 is preprogrammed to have 75% of its full HP and the dealer will unleash 100% of the power only after the 2000k break-in period/checkup.
Can someone that knows for sure confirm if this is true please?
Thanks!

Reeve, that's news to (good news actually). So MA will do the fluid change and servicing at 2000km, and also some re-programming as well?

Thanks

If we hit 1200 miles during the ED trip, will the VPC do the optimization service for us?

Just kinda disappointed to learn at the last minute that on ED the car will be making about the same (or less) hp/lb than my e39 M5 did...12 years ago..

Hopefully the torque 'curve' (max tq from 1500 rpms) will make up for the loss of the horsepower.

I don't think so (but I could be wrong). The VPC is not a full service garage. It takes car of certain things consistent with the delivery process. But you could have your dealer do the 1,200 mile service before you take delivery.

I agree.

It would seem that those owners who have gone past the 2k service would notice an extra 140hp being unleashed.

i saw the service records for an m5 from canada that had 5500 km's( i was going to buy it), and it said in the tech's notes;

at 2000 km "performed differential oil change and de-activated break-in mode"

Yes this is true. This is why I have already scheduled my Break-In Service at a BMW Dealership in Germany. I plan on covering about 2,000 miles total during my ED trip. I will also be visiting the Nurburgring right after my Break-In Service has been completed. You only live once.

Very nice ED trip. I did that on my last ED. This time for me, its just take delivery and get back on plane. Interesting to hear about the power restriction through the break-in.

I did not notice a difference after the break-in service. After observing the run-in guidelines (more or less) durning ED and having the car serviced in Canada, the sub-5k torque was subjectively very comparable. If limits are in place initially, I doubt they affect the 1500-4500 range.

The VPC will do a break-in service if the car is close enough upon arrival at the port.
As for reduced horse power I think they only confirmed item is the activation osf launch control . So far none of my contacts in BMW (GY and NA) have confirmed a reduction in horse power. They just emphasis the usual caution of keeping revs and top speed within reason.

For the Canadian version of the M5, all you M5 owners, you have taken the car in as a 'scheduled' post break-in service and I am assuming the owners are not picking up the tab for it.

I have to ask my dealer when I go pick up mine this Friday.

I took delivery last night and drove around 60 miles. No way this car is restricted.
Did some runs up to 90mph..car is fast. Coming from an 12' E63 TT i would have known
the diffrence between 400hp and 560hp. I was impressed that in normal comfort mode
the car drove fast unlike E60 which was a dog in P400 mode.

Great to hear. I never ever used E60 P400 mode - even when cruising on the highway. It just lost all of its mojo.
