2014 M5 w/Competition Package is it worth the price?

So you guys have convinced me to spend a little bit more money and get a newer ('14) M5 and I found one with the competition package. It has 42,000 miles just came off lease with all maintenance from Texas loaded with the competition package. I have two questions is the car still covered under the factory BMW warranty? If so what does the warranty cover? and is the competition package really a big deal? I did some research and they said it only adds 15 hp? Asking price is 52k.

you need to do some serious reading/research before you get burnt.

4 year / 50K Basic Warranty - 4 Year / 50K Powertrain Warranty. More than likely you'll hit 50k miles before the 4 year mark but that will depend on how much you drive.

The Competition package is up to you; I have a 15' M5 and I didn't feel it was worth it so I chose a car w/o it. It adds 15HP, suspension improvements and an improved exhaust note. Some people love the fact that it's factory installed while others such as myself believe there are better aftermarket options that accomplish more. TrevorM3 is selling a non-comp M5 if you decide to go that route ...

I don't think the price is bad but there are others for $52K with less mileage so still a bit of room for negotiation IMO.

Thanks! That is the information I'm looking for. 1.5 years of maintenance is worth a lot to me. What are the chances they sell for under 50k? Does anyone know current auction prices?

Competition package is not about the 15 hp. It's about the steering ratios being reworked, rear differential, lowered, suspension, exhaust, and then the 15hp.. To me those 4 in order are the important things. That's why I'm only shopping cars with the comp pkg. For power, who cares. It's going to get a tune anyway. Same with the exhaust. You can get a cpo car and get extended warranties if you want.

That's right, it's all about the handling upgrade. SA has tested and CP is really not faster than non-CP, but on track, CP will be quicker.

Despite these cars being reliable, all it takes is one major repair bill to set you back a few thousand. Once you spend that money, then you will start doubting long-term ownership. It's probably still cheaper though than buying new and eating depreciation.

This is the right way to think about the Comp Package. My first F10 did not have it, my current one does. I've tracked both cars and there is a drastic improvement in handling, but not likely something you'd fully appreciate on the street. If you plan to track then I would absolutely get it. If not, it would be lower on my list of priorities.

I think the CP will appeal to those who want a big 4 door sports car. It feels notably sharper than the non CP, although I changed my suspension for KW V3 with Dinan sways. The CP steering alone is worth the extra. The exhaust means I would like but don't need a sports exhaust and the car feels a little revier and stronger. It's more than 15hp in real life too.

For me the CP should be stock and something sportier still for 'CP'

Seems a bit silly to say for track work only, the CP will be way too soft for the track in reality, it's a heavy comfortable road car
