Escort 9500ci Detctor/Jammer RearView Install

I've decided on the Escort 9500ci detector/jammer for my new F10...my question is do the stock rearview mirrors come with a space etched out in the glass already for the display?? I've seen a few install videos on YouTube that show the display installed in the rearview mirror and was wondering if these mirrors come with an area already ready to accept the display in a certain spot or are the installers actually scraping away the back of the mirror to allow the display to show thru??

see below...

I don't think they need to etch it, the mirror just tints the display, requiring operation at max brightness.

Radar-Mirror sells ready made mirrors for this system.

Personally I wouldn't do a mirror setup. It voids mirror warranty, and also it is not in the line of sight so it is a distraction from the road.

My placement is better.

Stealth what info is displayed on the digital readout? Are you able to see it ok in bright sunlight in that position? I think I would prefer that placement vs mounting inside the mirror housing.

Thanks for the responses...I have a local car audio place here in Northern Bergen County, NJ that has quoted me $1999+tax for unit and install as you see it in the youtube link I posted above...I've used these guys before for a custom install on my Cobra as well as installing an iPod interface on my E39...they do good work...I just dont want to run the risk of my mirror getting damaged or scratched from an installer that has not done before...Does that price seem fair? Anyone reccommend someone in my area??

I have been quoted $2199-$2399 by California installers. So $1999 sounds like a good price.

Yes the visibility is perfect. The display has autobrightness which is light sensitive so you can read it in any light condition.

In fact it works better here than in the mirror, because the mirror darkens the display because a mirror is essentially a heavily tinted glass.

In my Lexus, I have a mirror placement and I can't read it in bright sunlight. This placement is very easy to read in any context. The other issue I had with the mirror placement is that I didn't like looking in the mirror when the radar picked up a threat. I would rather look forward. It's all about eyes on the road.

The display shows type of radar band being picked up, and either number and strength of radar signals, or frequency of radar signal. I set it up to pick up multiple threats with signal strength of each threat.

Good info, thanks. This placement + the HUD should work well together.

Agreed about line of sight issue but I think losing the "stealth" component of a built-in system is more important.

It's still stealth. All you see when the car is switched off is the small black box with no labeling. It looks factory.

The mirror is less stealth because someone driving behind you at night can see that display.

It doesn't look like a radar detector. It is a small 2 cm by 8mm black box with no labeling whatsoever.

The police are not trained to identify exotic $2000 radar setups.

Stealth your display is slightly different to nytrus11's display...his I believe is the 9500ci display here in the states...perhaps yours is a different model...the one with the blue display says "Passport Radar-Laser" right on it...kinda a dead give-away for any cop worth their salt...especially if its mounted where you have it as we have our registrations/inspection stickers right there in the window...you can always power down the system and no ones the wiser as its completely hidden behind the mirror...I do agree your line of sight position just not willing to give up the cleaner look within the mirror...

I think stealth is using the Bel Sti R+

I'm looking into this model as well, since its my understanding I can configure the unit to ignore certain frequency ranges not used by LE in my state.

I find it hard to believe when getting pulled over in a $100k car, a cop isn't looking to be a di*k to you about speeding. What do you say when he asks what that box in the corner is? Or can you not even see it from outside the car?

And is this the jammer portion of it or the actual detector? Sorry, I have an older passport, am not familiar with jammers.

I don't have a Passport 9500ci. That to me is like a 911 Carrera and my setup is more like a GT3 RS.

I have a Bel STIR+ with custom configuration and a Laser Interceptor Quad HP. And I have never been pulled over with this setup which I have used for a year now.

Don't know anywhere else, but here in Texas. The cops are very well educated about laser jammer.

Well if you believe that then you shouldn't be buying this device at all. The boxes on the outside of the car are much bigger than the display. So if you're worrying about hiding the display then you are missing the forest.
