F10 M5 vs F10 550 Dinan Stage 4
Hello M5 guys I need a bit of help here.
I currently have a 2012 550i with Dinan stage 3, Active Autowerke custom exhaust and soon to be installed Dinan intercoolers and Big break kit with stage 4 dinan flash. I love the car but today my wife drove it and loved it so much that asked if she can have it. This gives me the opportunity to jump into the M5. Do you guys think is worth the change? I have not been able to really drive an M5 since the dealer doesn't let me test drive it at high speeds so I don't know if the difference is going to be worth it.. What do you guys think of the M5 is it worth the $110k? Other options I can now consider: Used Audi R8 V8 911 turbo 997.2 Audi S7 Things to consider: My wife travels to NY and Europe very often so I get to drive whatever car she owns... I can wait for the M5 to depreciate a bit before making the jump but if the car is really as amazing as they say I don't mind and I can go with European delivery and make a vacation out of it... Thank you everyone for the feedback!! I will post some pictures and the Dyno later from a computer |

I made the same jump. 2012 550 with Stage 4 and various other upgrades.
My takeaway - every "comfort" setting in the M5 is equivalent to Sport+ in the 550. They are night and day.

M5 might not be your best choice since you're keeping both cars.
Better to get something different.

Annoying how some SA's don't allow you to actually feel for the car. I test drove an e63 and the SA let me rip it to 130! LOL, there are several M5 miami owners on here, I am sure one of them would be happy to take you for a drive and give you a feel for it. Also note, dealer cars aren't even broken in yet so you really can't get a good feel for it in general.

I forgot to mention I also have the Dinan shockwave product and H&R springs so I am happy with suspension..
Would love to meet up with a local M5 owner if anyone from Miami here is willing to help out I would appreciate it!! |

Scott from Dinan also told me they are about to release downpipes so that will give me a bit more power. |

Id get the porsche or the audi in your specific situation. It'd be silly to have that worked 550 and an M5.

After spending the last two days doing nothing other than visiting dealers our options are:
Porsche Cayenne Turbo or GTS - Going to test drive them tomorrow will update after.. Mercedes E63 - Hate the current e63 hoping the 2014 is much nicer, the current mercedes models have nothing on our BMW's its amazing how much better the BMW is to the Mercedes, simple things like the door locks in the mercedes seem so cheap, the interior is not very inviting and not alot of great options) BMW M5 - Really love this car but honestly just comparing it to my 550 is just not much difference, the 550 drives and handles amazing so not sure is going to be worth it. Also the problem is that we will be doing European delivery and with so many M5's in stock in the states I feel like I wont be getting a good deal if I buy it with european delivery. Audi S7 - Have not seen it yet but I do not like the back, it looks like the car is constipated Why are there so little options!!!! I am willing to go up to $125k and I cant find anything i like other than the BMW... I hate this |

While I agree that the M5 is a completely different car than the 550i (yes..in every way. I love that quote about every 550i driver wishing he was driving an M5), if I were I your shoes I would give the wife my M5 and buy a sporty little coupe. 997TT for sure. Saw a black one at a dealer while I was driving my M5 to the tuner yesterday and was already thinking...lol!

I would look at Aston Martins. You can find a good deal on old stock, and one of my favourite cars all around.

The way the M5 takes a corner is night and day. The car stays dead flat around corners, and when you put the gas down midway, the limited slip diff at the back makes a huge difference in getting the power down fast. The diff, the steering, and the chassis stiffness are all differences between the 550i and the M5.
