My 1000mile review
Hi,
I don't drive a lot so I have only 1000 miles (really 998) in 7 weeks. I have to get to 1200 so I can unleash the beast. Here are my early thoughts on the car. It is extremely fast and I have been driving mostly in efficient mode. You can just feel the torque building when the rpms get above 3k. I have tried to keep the revs under 4k. The weight of the car is significant, compared with my E92 M3 and I feel less connected to the road. I can see where people get into trouble when they don't realize how fast they are going. Excess speeds can be obtained in a heartbeat. Fortunately, the brakes seem to be incredible to keep things in control. Probably a good idea to keep the traction control on all the time, unless you are on a track. The ride is very comfortable in comfort mode. There are a few good sweeping turns near my house that call for sport or sport plus mode. Comfort just has too much body roll. Steering should be kept in comfort mode as recommended in multiple posts. Sport or sport plus require too much effort. The transmission is great but I don't see much difference compared with my E92. The car seems like a luxury car and I really like the HUD, soft close doors, drivers assistance package, cameras, and other bells and whistles. I did get the full leather which I think is worth it. Not sure what the car would be like without it. Other thoughts: Really easy to get two booster seats in. It's been 20 years since I drove a turbo car, but when it was cool this weekend the car seemed to like it. I always drive in S mode, just habit after almost 12 years of SMG and DCT. Thank goodness I got the 20's, so easy to clean. For the M3 vs M5 debators. If you want a sports car to speed around town, weave thru traffic, enjoy the M experience, then the M3 is a great choice. If you want a 560+ HP luxury sedan for toting the family around or for long commutes, then the M5 is your car. I'll post some more once I get thru the break in service. E

agree on almost all points, except the traction control. When it is dry, put in in M-mode. It allows just the right amount of TC before you lose control of the beast. I spun my tires flooring it on the highway at 80 mph. There is that much power. Also, get the seat belt extenders. Makes the booster seats easier to buckle.
It really is a comfortable, sporty luxury sedan. It pampers you with the full leather, technology and B&O sound system, and gives you a rush like a sports car with its insane power. I love the M5

Dave, I think you are just about right. I think lakewoodlonghorn wrote it right, "like a Sports car". It has sports car performance, but not a sports car. In any case, it is awesome. I just need to get thru brake in, get the charcoal filters out, and get some cooler air in.
