Tried new stuff from KW suspension

Greeting to all M5 owners. Hope all is well to you and your rides.

I have a 2013 AW SO F10 M5 for 7 months replacing my 2011 titanium silver 535i. Of course we all know that we cant compare a 535 to M5. It is just so good.

I love everything about the car except the wheel gap that the car has. So i was in the market of spring as I don't want to lose the function of EDC. So i chose H&R which lower the car by 1" front and 0.6" rear. I had this spring for 1 month. All i can say about H&R is the car is too firm for my personal taste. I sacrificed the comfort from this beast. And moreover, i feel the front of the car is too low. It is weird to see the car from the sides where the front part and the rear are not balanced.

And then KW distributor in Indonesia offer me KW sleeve kit for F10 M5. All i can say about the sleeve kit is WOW!!! It is so confortable and handles the car well. It works like a coilover but we still use the old strut, and as a result the EDC still works!!

It lower the car from 0.2" up to 1.2" both front and rear. I am greatly satisfied with the product. It's simply flawless and No clunking sound came from the car.

Here are some pictures, mind the iphone quality pics

Nice! I've been waiting to see a review of the new sleeve kit.

Pardon my ignorance, but is a "sleeve over" kit the same thing as swapping springs?

Thanks

Installation procedure for sleeve kit is almost similar to install spring. We just need to do a little extra work than spring. After removing all 4 suspension assembly from front and rear, we have to remove everything from the strut, which include the old sleeve, 2 plastic parts, 1 yellow rubber stopper and of course the old spring.

And then, kw provide new sleeve like what we normally have on coilover which enables us to adjust the ride height. New stopper and new spring.

The hardest part of the assembly is removing the old sleeve and installing the new one. It is so tight that your installer need pressing machine to do this part. You better consult with the installer first.

Anyway please do not hesitate if you need anymore question.

P.S i do not work for KW. I just want to share the good experience i have with this product.. LoL cheers

The KW provides adjustable height as mentioned and Id guess their spring rates are better dialed than H&R. I ran KW sleeves on my Benzes as well as H&R springs (front only as the rears were airmatic) and I felt the KW's were more compliant over undulations and bumps but firmer under speed.

Its a beautiful cost effective way to lower your car and get that adjustability as well.

Can BMW void the warranty when changing the springs?

That's cool about KW. But for a cheaper solution I recommend the Eibach Springs. The drop is 0.9 in front and 0.7 in rear and it looks perfect. The ride quality is wonderful too, it feels like stock, not stiff or bouncy at all. But I say if you are gonna do springs or coilovers, then you should do sway bars too. The springs and the sway bars make the M5 handle the way it should have come. It's just incredible how well the M5 handles with those two things. I absolutely love my setup. It really is like driving a whole new car.

Nope I installed both at the same time. I love driving my M5 so much more now. It's amazing how it handles now.

Yea that's what a friend was telling me. And he didn't have lowering springs installed. Just away bars. So I'm guessing turn in and firmness is what makes the diff.
I might do this after I return from Israel in May

Your setup is CP sways and Eibach springs right?

I should have my CP sways in the mail on Monday, and I have had my CP springs for a while. Not sure if I should install those (on stock struts) or get the KW HAS sleeve kit.

Totally agree with your opinion regarding KW. It is soft during slow driving and firm during spirited driving.

We are provided a special tool from KW. It is easy to adjust the height of the spring, but well you need to remove the wheels before you can adjust them. Basically it is just like coil over.

Dave, mind asking about the sway bars. How do we install that? Do we have to disassemble the suspension again? I would like to get those. Where do you get those? Online or BMW parts department?

thanks

I think the warranty void if you change the spring. If any issues persist, you may put back the stock spring before you go to the dealership.

Anyway, I like you setup.. Which P40s wheels you have? i really love the P43SC wheel. Also need a little review about Gruppe M.. Still considering Gruppe M for my intake

thanks

Yeah I'm a bit tired of my H&Rs. They are a bit too bouncy for me. I might go this route or KW V3s and sway bars. Off topic, but that Super Trofeo Stradale looks dropdead sexy

Yup H&R is very bouncy and firm. At first I was leaning towards KW V3 as well. I do not want to sacrifice EDC just because I want to have lower stance. At the end of the day, KW HAS Sleeve kit is the one I go with.

Any other projects going on with your beast?

Anyway thanks a lot for the compliment. Talking about firm or bouncy of what H&R do to our M5s, this bull is at least 3 times worse than that.
