I totally agree with Motor Trend but a true driver's car is not what a prospective M5/M6 buyer is looking for. They want something fast but very comfortable and luxurious while being a status symbol. The latter being a huge component I suspect for most everyone here. It is a very very nice car and looks great. Is it fun....not really

I would say an M5/M6 driver wants something much sportier than an S63 AMG or Maserati Quattroporte yet at the same time something more luxurious and comfortable than a 911, R8, C63 or M3. It's the golden mean.

I think too many of you are splitting hairs, and who really cares what MT says? This is a kid in school saying you're shoes are ugly, and. Now everyone's in a wad. I can say the ultimate driving machine still exist for the following:
1) Drives like a bat out of hell fun factor. 2) I can drive the family to a movie. 3) Can pack five bags of mulch on the trunk. (did that yesterday) 4) Will take many super cars to the mat, and will hold it's own on the track. 5) Luxury all around in the cabin. 6) 0 to 100 will scare the crap out of you. I will stop there, and the car that won I have it parked next to the M5. Yes it's a drivers car big time, but it can't do all the things above. Yes I prefer the drive of the Porsche, but for a full fledge daily driver the M5 wins. Taking the car on the back roads and twists or track the Porsche is your weapon. Yes Mike I said the M5 is still the Ultimate Driving Machine here I come M school Wednesday. (hope they let me in because I'm driving the Porsche to South Carolina needs some miles on the motor). Guys enjoy your M5's who cares if the car has 200 more pounds more than you like? It's called a half of tank of gas, and one less passenger. Also quit ordering all that crap you don't need soft close doors, big heavy wheels, extra speakers, some want a freaking spare tire come on man(: |

It's not about the looks or the numbers, that's all fine with the M5, it's the vague steering which I'm not sure would really add cost to make feel better. I'm assuming a simpler less expensive setup would make the car sportier. We just want our cars to be communicative, to talk to us |

Disingenuous labeling on the part of a retail advertiser-funded publication. Should read something like "the best luxury executive sports coupe with a sedan and wagon thrown in just to befuddle out readership."
An honest assessment of best drivers cars would and should consist mainly of performance oriented coupes in different price ranges from the Aston to the BRZ. But real honesty from a retail auto publication, at least in terms of objective comparisons and appropriate article titles, seems less and less the case. This kind slop wouldn't go unnoticed in a professional journal. Seems like they just make things up as they go along and expect the reader to think this sh*t is golden. Don't think so. I'll give them credit for one thing though... they seem to know the market. AMG and //M drivers *think* that their cars are on par with supercars etc. Much like a Mustang driver thinks he is with an //M he drives up to at the stoplight. |
