Tough Weekend

So, leaving Philly for Raleigh yesterday a.m. and on pre-trip inspection noticed the front right PSS was bulging and separating from the wheel by about 1.5". WTF? I stupidly tried to give it a try anyway....made it to Fredricksburg when 'low pressure' warning came on. Stopped, took a look and tried air refill (did not try sealant canister). Tire was shot. So, anyway, Sunday at 3pm is not a good time to contact BMW for service unless you're ready to spend the night 200 miles from home awaiting their service department re-open on Monday.

...went with plan B. Local tire guy 1.5 miles from where I was stranded told me to come on by and he'd set me up. Waddled the 1.5m to his joint and he put me back on the road for $85 with a used Michelin - tire, mounting etc. all-in.

Made it home fine but still wondering what the hell happened to my tire. Meanwhile it looks like I'm at least going to need a new front set of PSS with only 15k on the stock set.

Warning Don't be an idiot like me....

That's always a worry. Maybe having a spare inflatable tire on long road trips.

I've never seen these roads in such poor shape in the 12 years I was in Philly. tough winter and no public funds to repair I guess.

I'm doing this. My stock undamaged inflated front tire is now going into the trunk.

Totally lucky and shocked. Also, not sure if this is widely known or commented on by others recently but the stock PSS front spec tires for the 13 F10 are out of stock EVERYWHERE, on back order and have no estimate of when we can get them. Tire Rack gave me a 30 day minimum availability but that is just a guess.

Don't have a front tire problem anytime soon unless you're OK with Pirelli's which I am not.

Thanks. I think I was extremely lucky. A tire shop open on Sunday in relatively rural Virginia, 1.5 miles from my breakage point with that tire spec (granted it was used) available, mounted and installed all for $85 including the tire! Are you kidding me? I almost laughed when he priced it. Then I tipped him handsomely.

I was surprised that they just ended up having a used tire in stock that worked for you...

Had the same problem with the PS2s for the E60. Very frustrating and I ended up moving to the Hancook V12s becuase the PS2 was not available. I actually liked that tire alot.

At 15K I've still got pretty good rubber on my the front tires and wouldn't be replacing them if one hadn't blown up. I haven't measured them but it looks like the tread depth is maybe 1/2 way done at this point.....

Long story but ended up replacing all four corners at just under 11k on the tires.....

That situation was a pain in the ass

Actually never thought about just leaving a spare tire in the trunk, makes sense seeing the pss isn't always available, especially traveling on a weekend.
