Steering wheel

http://ind-distribution.com/ind/bran...steering-wheel

Is this an actual BMW part number?

Somebody at BMW told me that they don't fit this wheel as a factory option because Alcantara falls apart from repeated touching and it would be a warranty nightmare to have these wheels in broad circulation.

A better strategy is to apply a thin coating of some leather masters leather protection cream matte to your steering wheel every week.

This gives the leather a velvety texture like natural calf skin (it normally feels too smooth because its too dry). Its like how human skin lacks grip when its dry, but after you apply moisturizer it is more grippy. The velvety texture of the well maintained steering wheel leather provides excellent grip. In fact I would say the grip level is vastly superior to Alcantara.

I apply this stuff every week.

I will try to find out tomorrow if I can get a better deal on it. Not a huge fan of the new steering wheel since to me it looks like a Mustang wheel

Mustang wheel or not, 2014 M6 style 3-spoke wheel looks light years better than 2013 wheel...from any angle.

I read somewhere the Car will need to be reprogrammed if the wheel is changed out, could be wrong but worth finding out first.

That was the case with the E46 CSL and ZHP. BMW dropped the last Alcantara company and started using a new one on the GTS. The steering wheels hold up just as good as the leather one.

The wheel listed on the iND website comes on the BMW performance edition from the factory (1 of 30)

I guess it comes down to personal preference. IMHO I feel that the button's on the MY14 wheel are not as accessible/user friendly as the ones on the older wheel.

Their website only lists the flat bottom one. Am I looking in the wrong section?

You can't get the one I'm selling from BMW USA or Germany

Yep that's the BMW ///M Performance Steering wheel (fits the M5 , it's just not listed on the website, they only list the other F10 models)
The steering IND is selling is from the limited edition F10 M5s sold in the UK market (limited edition and hence the increased price tag)

Nate's right, you can't just these anywhere. I got over 10K miles on mine and no apparent wear yet. Love it!

I prefer the LCI M5 wheel, it looks so much better in the flesh.

I'm with you there. I'm waiting on my 2014 AB M5 to arrive in port...on it's way over the Atlantic now. We have same taste in color, but I think 2013 wheel just looks too chunky in the middle, not light and sporty like M6/M5 LCI....of course we are nit-picking here

I for one am waiting for my M6/M5 LCI steering wheel to arrive from Germany. Actually all the parts save for the airbag are already in - will install as soon as the airbag arrives. Sometimes I wonder why BMW did not just use this M6/M5 LCI steering wheel in the first place *scratch head*

I also understand that the M6/M5LCI wheel is smaller in diameter than the previous 2013 wheel...great news.

The worst part is when your car gets stuck in the customs and then department of agriculture and you have no control over it. Congrats and can't wait to see the pics.

Did you say Dept of Agriculture? Oh no. Does it make any difference b/c you did ED?

Have you been happy with your choice of AB?

I am not sure if there is a difference. If you think about they do drive the car short distances and it might collect some bugs on the bumper. The GM of the dealership started WWIII with the ED dept and we found out all cars get released at the same time, but one of the members of Bimmerfest got his car before me and he was on the same ship. I hope you get your car fast.

I had second thoughts when I saw San Marino blue, but the following day I had my car detailed and looked at it in the sun.....all second thoughts vanished at that point. I love the color and it's a head turner for sure.

Since the AB is quite rare I have never seen one personally. Wanted to go back to black, and was planning on Black Sapphire. Then saw photos on this forum with AB and loved the subtle idea of the blue sparkles in the sun.

Already ordered painted reflectors from IND and when I received them, thought Nate had sent the wrong ones. Then took them outside and when the sunlight hit them...VOILA...bright blue specks come shining through

Last 2 weeks are going to be a difficult wait.
