2013 F10 M5

Hello all,

I'm FINALLY looking to make the jump from my 2005 e46 M3 to the F10 M5... and I've been lurking around reading and learning from the forums for a while. I just came across a local used car dealership selling a 2013 F10 M5 w/19k miles for 63k. Looks fully loaded w/executive & premium packages.... full leather as well. Pretty much everything I've been searching for, except competition package.

My question is: I was hoping for a CPO, but this car w/such low mileage is a tough one to pass up. Any thoughts? Pro's/Con's of buying used from a general used car dealership? CarFax is clean and it is a lease return... this dealership bought it recently from auction.

The car seems pretty legit considering it has pretty much everything else I've been searching for....and hopefully I could get them to go a little lower OTD.

Any help is greatly appreciated as I'd figure you all would be the best resource for reliable guidance. The forum world was great when I picked up my e46 11 years ago!

Dont pay more than 60k. MY2013 can be had all day in mid to high 50s. I was quoted high 50s when I was looking back in January for MY2013 samples with less than 30k miles. I assume the warranty is ending by year's end, so thats a good bargaining chip. With that said, I wouldnt own one out of warranty, so factor in a good platinum level aftermarket warranty ($4-5k).

Also check tire tread life. Are they OEM tires (Pzeros or MPSS)?
Run the VIN on bmwvin.com to confirm included packages. BTW, comp pack was not available for 2013.

I just made the same switch 2 Months ago! Had a 2006 E46 M3 Convertible. The difference is NIGHT and DAY. They aren't even comparable. Although I miss my 6-Speed convertible this car quickly became my favorite!!!

I picked up a 2013 M5 w/ 38K miles on it for $50K in Februrary from a BMW dealership. It was not a CPO car but had the remainder of the factory warranty which is great! My warranty is out in October..... The deal was just too good to Pass up. It was off lease and was in a small cosmetic fender bender where the fender was replaced but that is why it isn't a CPO. I took it in for service last week and was notified that one of my turbo lines were leaking coolant. They repaired it and took care of everything. That being said if your going for a 2013 make sure it had its coolant lines replaced or plan on having them checked out.

Wow, just took a look myself....that is a steal despite the widebody work, which looks clean. Kinda limits you to aftermarket wheels though.

Thank you for the great info - it's exactly the kind of knowledge I was looking for!

Yes, the warranty ends later this year & I definitely would want to add an aftermarket one. I did that with my e46 and was covered for all service/maintnence until 100k. Any suggestions on companies to look into?

I've never heard of bmwvin.com, so that is a perfect place for me to continue research on this car.

Nice! Thank you for that tip!

$50k? Man ... That is a great deal!

Did you look into getting an aftermarket warranty before it runs out?

I actually haven't done much research on the subject although I should. Any recommendations? The thing is I don't know how much longer I'm planning on keeping it with the New York weather its kinda tough having an M5 as a daily driver where it snows.

shop around a bit more. you can get a nicely equip with a decent mileage 2013 for under 60K. you might need to go out of your area to get it but might be worth a look around.

Fidelity Warranty Services, Easycare, even Costco. I would also ask your BMW dealer what third party warranty they work with most/have the least problems with. I was leaning towards Fidelity, but in the end found a MY2014 with 30 months left on factory warranty.

I just bought a 2013 M5....is the coolant line a common issue then? I was going to take it to the dealer for a full check and I'll make sure to specifically ask for those to be checked.

Yes, From my understanding there was a recall on the Coolant lines. Give your dealership a call it should be covered under warranty

I bought a M3 a few years back the was not from a dealer that still had time remaining on the factory warranty. My local dealership fixed every single little thing they could that would be covered under warranty before it ran out.

That being said, I just picked up '13 M5 CPO two weeks ago with one year left on the factory warranty. Not sure I'd have bought it non CPO given what I suspect parts will cost for this bad boy when things go bad. Given all the electronics in this car, I can't imagine I'll be trouble free. Germans make great cars, but electronic gremlins are always lurking...

Curious,
Aren't CPO cars typically about 3-4k additional over same car not CPO? As such, wouldn't it be more cost effective to get a solid aftermarket bumper to bumper 7yr/100k on something like a 13 for roughly the same price? I was looking at a 13 going for 53k NON CPO, dealer says they will CPO it for about $4k additional. Then I learned that CPO is not bumper to bumper so I figured whats the point - or am I missing something?

You are correct. I'd rather find the best deal on a nice car and buy extended warranty to it.
