M5 F10 as a Daily Use Car !!

Hi everyone,

As a passionate driver in the mid 30s of age, and a current 2008 BMW 5-Series owner who has been in love with the concept of BMW M5 since the high school days, I am considering the M5 F10 as my next car that I might order shortly...

Although I have rented one for a day to see how it feels, I have some questions to the current owners of M5 F10 that can be answered also partially by the M6 F12 owners:

1. Driving M5 F10 equipped with DCT 7-speed dual clutch gearbox everyday. Would this be a smooth experience? And how different would it be from a normal auto gearbox? Any issues worth highlighting?

2. I am concerned that after 9-12 months of driving the car I would say to myself that is enough of m5... Just because it is a sporty aggressive car. Any thoughts here?

3. Is there any common or known issues / problems with the 2013 model of the car (either electronic related or mechanical)?

Thanks in advance for all the helpful responses.

1. You can drive in the efficient relaxed mode very comfortably. No worries about driving it a ton, very smooth

2. No worries. It's comfortable but can be agressive when you want it. Perfect balance

3. None that haven't been addressed. Oil pump was a problem but they have fixed all cars.

Buy it, you will not regret it. Best car I have ever owned.

Edit: some drivers experience a clunk in the rear suspension, most don't have the issue. I don't. Not sure what BMW is doing abut it, if anything.

Perfect car for daily drive. The ride is as smooth as normal f10 5 series. Dtc is very good for daily drive. You won't regret getting the m5.

It's a perfect day to day car. It has a dual personality. Easy going in base settings but a Monster in M Mode.

You will find it easy to drive in traffic and to the supermarket. But put it on a highway or on the side of a mountain and it will come alive like a beast.

I had a 550i before. Initially I found the suspension ride quality to be more firm and less smooth. But after 4000 miles I find the M5 very smooth and I couldn't imagine wanting a softer setting than comfort mode. So you do adapt to the car too.

The handling blows away any non M car.

Perfect balance of sport and comfort... They refer to it as a gentleman's racer. I believe it sums it up right there...... And there is no getting tired of an M5 lol.

I have owned a number of 7's , A8's ,911's and Z06's . This is a perfect blend of luxury and performance with your choice at the push of a button (M button).

1. Better than standard auto. Lightning fast and silky smooth.

2. My wife drives my M5 around town in comfort mode and it feels like a Lexus. I drive it and it's a rocket ship.

Top Gear said it: The F10 M5 is the best car in the world right now.

Buy.

Thank you all for prompt and very encouraging feedback. Appreciated.

That is actually what I was hoping to hear.

I will configure one and might reach out should I need any help about including / excluding some options.

Enjoy your M5s

Daily Driver to NYC

Every day during the week into NYC for work. It just purrs around the city with no issues, and then when you want to crank up the West Side highway, just hit the button and go.. Best car I have ever driven from an all around perspective. Have the Snow tires on her now and she has had no issues in the few snow storms we have had so far. Go for it.

Enjoy your M5s
+1 to others' comments. I love this car.

Mine's fully optioned except for rear seat entertainment (if you're in the car, I'll provide the entertainment, thx) and night vision.

Full leather dresses the car up in my opinion, which is fitting.

I'm surprised how much I appreciate the driver assistance stuff. If you spend any time at all parking in tight locations you'll like the bird's eye view cameras that show you right where you are.

20" wheels are forged, while 19's are cast (at least in Canada). Go 20"!

Enjoy!

It is the best everyday car in the world right now.

I've got a 70 mile a day commute out of chicago to the burbs and I can cruse in comfort or press a button and take off like a rocket ship.

I would recommend a winter tire set up of you deal with any snow.

MANDATORY! I got caught a few miles from home when some light snow started in the late afternoon and it got so slippery and a little icy I almost didn't make it home. Some white knuckle moments that I didn't appreciate in the new car with the stock tires.

Thanks everyone for all the useful information and kind responses.

I am about to place an order but came to know yesterday that F10 is subject to facelift for year model 2014 not 2015, which means that product for 2014 would start hitting the markets late this summer!!

To me this is surprising, since BMW would introduce the facelift after completing 4 years and then change the design after 3 years of the facelift. 5 series F10 has been introduced as year model 2011 !

I have reached out to our dealer for confirmation but still waiting the response.

Anyone can comment on that or share some validated input please...

I am amazed how well it works as a daily driver. The comfort mode is good. Program your more extreme settings and they are available at a touch of a button. I have more miles on it than my 1M and M3 combined and I have had the M5 only a few months. The 1m and M3 I have had for over a year. My only concern is the 20" rims. I should have gone with the standard 19".

I have yet to drive DCT, but from my research everyone seems to say it is lightyears ahead of SMGII, which I had in my e46 M3. I actually loved SMG, which most people seemed to find archaic, so I cannot wait to test out DCT. Supposedly its extremely smooth.

Not that this is that in-depth, but gives u some insight -

seriously? 19inch? it would think that the 20's are a no brainer. i just don't see the point of the 19's.
