Gotcha. That's good that you left an inch, because to restore it back to stock you just have to use similar silicone hose and clamps that came with the RAMAIR kit. The dealer wouldn't give a crap and probably won't notice if you trade it back in, LOL.

Hmmm interesting, we used to fit hand made catch tanks like the one on my old show supra, BUT this was for better engine breathing which led to reduced or zero blow by into intakes. It may be difficult to install drain off's effectively but will look into it

just checked after changingd my oil to Castrol 5w-40 recently and my intakes are bone dry now, the slight change in viscosity could have helped, but before some oil had collected

1) Remove engine pipe and fit after market oil breather filter 2) Seal open hole in air intake where pipe used to connect However it may be worth extending the pipe away from turbos as the filters could melt, or just buy metal filters .. |

I like your hot-rod idea of putting a breather in there. I've seen some universal catch cans that would probably work http://www.americanmuscle.com/mishim...blue&GID=80263 |

I spoke to a few M5 guys. They said clean the PCV valve regularly and there shouldn't be oil blow by issues. On the new M3/M4 S55 motor, BMW has built in an oil catch can system that recycle the oil. That explained why I never had to top off my oil when I had the F80 M3 for 12k miles. I only had my M5 for over a month, already went through over a quart. Downshifting hard increase the chance of oil blow by, which I did a lot of that. Fact: Oil getting into the intake lowers fuel Octane level. Second, we have direct injection so the injectors can't clean the oil collected on the intake valves. That's where walnut shell blasting comes in every 50k miles. There are cheap catch cans online. You just have to make brackets for them. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Billet-Alumi...hVNuJR&vxp=mtr

That is true, free flow filters reduce vacuum pressure = less oil blow by. I will clean my PCV valves with carburetor cleaner spray when the RAMAIR intakes come.

Thanks for sharing this info financenick . I may do this soon. Any sound clips on the intake? I'm assuming it sounds identical to the BMS intake. Also did you dremel the intake pipe inside the engine bay or removed the piping then cut?

As for the sound, yes identical to the BMS (maybe a little louder) you hear the main difference half way through gear changes, you get a nice audible air surge on acceleration and then another on throttle lift off, also pops and bangs from exhaust seem to have increased. |
