If you do 2 steps you will need to start doing them every 10-15k miles

Yes stock plugs and gapping seems to get finicky when you increase the boost. JB4 stage 1 ran fine. Full JB4, bcm, intakes @ 18psi equaled misfires. Now running 21 psi , so far it's been a beast but I can tell I will need meth or keep mixing e85 as trims are near max. Stock interval is ~20k

You do realize adding E85 doesn't help your trims. Ethanol requires significantly (like 30%) more fuel volume for the same stoich ratio.

Yeah, thinking BM3 to change the fueling to achieve this. But you are the guru here, I actually have many questions for you especially around meth and the theory of potential failure of the rear cylinders. Mind if I PM you?

Tools:

3/8" drive Rachet (swivel head)
Long Extension (12")
BMW Spark plug removal tool (can buy at BMS for $19)
Medium Extension (6")
#10 socket

Stuff to do beforehand:

1. Gap your plugs if you so desire
2. Unplug ground in the back if you so desire

Steps:

1. Remove plastic cover on top of turbos
2. Remove intakes - follow the process for whatever intake you may have. If the intake can be swiveled away then not necessary to completely remove
3. Disconnect the DME harness on both sides - three types of plugs
a. Press a notch and move the arm to push out
b. Standard side clips
c. Put the top section and it pushes out
4. Yank the DME's out (actually yank...) - no need to undo the coolant lines or unscrew anything... you will be able to sort of keep them on the side
5. Pry the coil tabs - you pull them up and it will push out the connector
6. Put the 6" extension through the hold and pull from both sides - way easier than trying to use your finger
7. On the driver-side, you have to unscrew (#10 socket) the reservoir... just move it to the side a bit - no need to remove any of the hoses
8. Unscrew the plugs with the magnetic socket and put the new ones in - TORQUE appropriately
9. Push the coils back on - you can insert the connector, close the tab and then push all at the same time... makes it easier
10. Re-install the DME - connect the harness plugs (both sides)
11. Re-install the reservoir
12. Re-install the intakes
13. Put the engine cover back on
14. Connect the battery ground

Voila.... done!

Do you have to remove the metal bracket (looks like sway bar bracket that holds ecu's) to get better access? or just move the ECU's aside along with the black plastic fame that holds them?

What torx bit # you use to remove metal brace? and if we dont remove brace any tricks to completing the plugs changes?

Don't have to remove the brace... just take the ECU's out. If you unplug the ECU's its even more easier but not quite necessary.

It's really access to pull the coils out. The plugs themselves are easy with a long extension and magnetic plug socket.

Changed plugs and car now won't start, please help.

We changed the plugs to the NGK 97506, gapped to .020, put them all back and now the car won't start. It turns but won't ignite. Any ideas what the heck happened?

Thank you

Just did my plugs/coils over the weekend. I had to refit a few of the coils due to a rough idle initially. Seems they are finicky.....has anybody else had this issue?

Runs fine now but had me a bit worried

I've been searching but haven't found a definitive answer. Bone stock car, looking to install a set of OE Bosch plugs. What gap do I use? I've been seeing .018 - .022 thrown around for cars with a tune. What about stock?

To reply to my own post/question, I found .034 listed at the OE plug gap spec. That said, when I removed the plugs from the car, they were set at .028. The plugs were last changed by BMW, so this is the spec they set them to. The new Bosch plugs were set at roughly .030 out of the box. Since I haven't had trouble with the car, I set the new plugs to the same .028 that came out of the car.

FYI for those that care. haha

I replaced the spark plugs and coil packs as a peace of mind project this Friday. I will share pics later today. I would love to get your feedback on conditions of my old plugs.

One note to add to the DIY, make sure you reconnect all DME connectors fully. I've seen several people post issues after completion. I too faced about 80 fault codes when I tried to start my car. 2 hours later I diagnose the problem was the middle DME connector (with the flap) was not seated correctly, where the bottom portion was open/off by 2mm. This caused all the errors. I disconnected and reconnected every connector to ensure all were seated perfectly. Cleared all the codes and now it's happy as can be.

Needless to say I shat a brick thinking I had fried my DME... Gook luck and definitely do this DIY to get to know your car.
