F10 M5 kickdown switch
So this may be a really stupid question but this is the first time ive owned a Bmw and an Auto/paddleshift car
Noticed there seems to be a point of resistance towards the end of the travel of the accelerator pedal...feels like a click when going past it.. Ive done some digging around and it seems that this may be a kickdown switch that Im hoping someone can confirm In addition, do I need to go past this point or up to this point when accelerating using sequential mode in order to get max power? Cheers! |

Yes it is a kick down thingy - But it is rarely needed as the car is really moving before you floor it, Unless you are racing or timing it - I heard in Canada it isn't there though!! |

This is what you do, and this is what I was told by other members:
Traveling in 5th or 6th gear. Press the kickdown and pull the downshift.... Grab on the steering wheel and hold on as your car blows to the next zip code! Enjoy |

@drbru You can get to 100% throttle input (aka full throttle) by pushing the accelerator pedal right up to (not past) the kickdown button. The kickdown button will not do anything on its own in S (sequential) DCT mode. Only in D (drive logic) DCT mode will it take action on its own.
The point of the kickdown is when you are in D (drive logic) DCT mode. It immediately shifts the car down to the optimum gear for maximum acceleration. In addition, you can utilize the kickdown button in S (sequential) DCT mode. For example, if you are on the highway in 7th @ 75mph, you can floor the car to the kickdown and with one downshift action of the DCT lever or DCT paddle, it will enter the optimum gear for maximum acceleration performance. This would be an alternative to double or triple down shifting on your own. So, the kickdown does have a purpose, mainly for D mode, and is a great tool for S mode. In S mode it's there as a tool to get to the best gear in the shortest amount of time. While you can double or triple downshift to the optimum gear by yourself, the kickdown + downshift combo gets there the fastest.

Edit: Oops...covered above.
Also, if you're in manual mode say in 6th gear going 80mph and you push kickdown and then paddle shift down once it will shift to the best available gear (in this case, 3rd gear).
