MDM

Sooooo..... MDM nearly landed me in a ditch.

Beware, it says MDM allows more slip.... more like A TON MORE SLIP!

I ended up seeing the tail in front of me almost, before I was able to fight it back into control and let the car fly down the road. First time I actually felt scared that I had almost no traction.

Clearly says take action. I keep mine in MDM 100 percent of the time. Always ready though.

Especially if it gets cooler in the night and early mornings.

Uh huh! As @nugent said, welcome to the M5. Glad everything turned out OK.

Absolutely need to practice car control basics with MDM on. If you hammer it with the wheel turned, get ready, the back is coming around. The M engineers call this "drift mode", car thinks you want to slide and it will keep coming around until you take action.

And I agree if your tires are cold be careful.

MDM won't stop you from spinning out. Common misconception. It provides no safety net. Just a marginal amount of fine tuning to your throttle input.

I would think it simply allows a certain slip angle before intervening. But it may not intervene soon enough and fast enough to prevent a spin. Instructors say even DSC can't beat the laws of physics.
But on track in Austin, in MDM mode, I did happen to hang the tail out a few times and maintain control.
