dealer trying to charge me for loaner miles

whats up guys

I was getting my m5 fixed needed a loaner car so they gave me a new 5 series. It was okay. Had about 4k miles on it.

I live 100 miles away from the dealer and my commute everyday to work round trip is like 210 miles. So now they call me the car is done and advise me how much mileage is on the car. It cant exceed over 5k.

I am over the limit by couple miles, by the time I get to the dealer it will be like 5140. They advised me they will charge me $500-$750 as they cannot sell the car now as a dealer demo or something.

The lady tells me this is on the car itself. I don't see any sticker on the car, and my paperwork and agreement do not have any of this listed.

They wont give my car back if I don't pay the charge, I am thinking of just paying it and filing a dispute through amex

what u guys think

I have had loaners from range rover, mercedes put like 4-5k miles never any problems. If there was actual paperwork or a sticker that said that stated that I would have never driven it.

That is BS.

I once taken a road trip from WA to CA back to WA on a loaner car.

I did let my dealer know ahead of time and their response was: "Faster the miles go up, the faster they get rid of the car as a loaner"

Call BMWNA and file a complaint. Unless they warned you in writing that you have limited miles on a loaner, you are free to drive the heck out of the car which in this case is your normal commute.

That is the point of a loaner car.

If you have a lawyer, have him / her give the dealer a call and watch them change their tune in 2 secs.

Do you have a second key? It isn’t stealing if it is your own car

Its not unusual to have a mileage cap on loaners. I've always been advised of this with my BMW loaners. Sounds like its dependent on which dealers....

Even if it's a mileage limit it's usually per day. Just keep it a few extra days if that's how it is.

If it's not on the paperwork for the loaner they can't legally charge you so definitely dispute it if this is the case.

I returned he car today and there was no problems

Now my card been charged $500 they are telling me there was numerous stickers inside the car...there wasn't a single sticker

My contract which I have and the website of the dealer under service loaner policy does not mention anything about 5000 mileage limit

My contract does state that they can charge me for applicable mileage fee.

What's even more funny is I buy my m5 from them and pay hundreds extra to tow to them just so they can get service money

First of all, it was their fault for sending out a car that was that close to the 5000 mile limit. I do believe that there is a limit on their "loaner program" cars.

My dealership recently implemented milage caps as well. On a recent service trip for my i3, I had to sign paperwork after their "Rental Specialist" did a walk around of the loaner with me. After signing the paperwork, I promptly walked in to the GSM's office and mentioned that I would exceed their milage limit just by driving home and back. I was told not to worry about it. I've purchased many cars from them in the past.

If I were in your shoes, I would speak to management and remind them how much money you spend at their store. I'm sure their policy is in place to protect themselves from abuse from every T, D, & H. Now a days their margins on 2,3 series cars is so small that they've(dealers) started pinching pennies.

This is hilariously wrong, I've been through dozens of loaners and probably driven each one out of state surpassing the mileage limits posted above. As others have mentioned above, go ahead and speak to management about this, so they can get you on your way with your car.

They are saying I removed the sticker that was in the car. But my paperwork and contract has no 5000 mileage cap or limit listed so its okay because I know amex will take care of me.

management is always busy every time I call.... have called multiple times now.

This dealership suck BMW OF SPRINGFIELD. I will be writing a full review and posting it on a bunch of websites as well if anyone else has any suggestions

If you have protection with the AMEX, then just start that process and watch how quickly they get back to you.

Duude, you shoulda taken it to Open Road BMW, Speak to Craig. Love their service department, their scheduling isn't great with loaner cars because they are always busy. But if you give them enough heads up they'll have something

Next time for sure man which will be soon unfortunately, how you liking the f30 i bet thats a ton of fun

update for anyone that is interested my car threw another CEL and having some idle problems, I was really upset now because the dealer didn't even fix anything properly it seems, I call back the 6th time today and finally the manager tell me he will try to see if he can refund the charge and also explained about the numerous stickers and that they lose ton of money on the car now since they cant sell it.

thats not my problem i would have taken a chevy had I known about mileage limit not being in a bmw is not gonna kill me for a week or so. And if the stickers were in there I would have refused to take it gotten a low mileage car

Amex is the worst to file disputes with. Better to use another card.

The limit in this area at one dealer is 75 miles,...I told they,..yeah! Right! I drove more then 75 miles to buy your car,...I'm using your facility to have maintenance or repairs made,....of which,..you're still making money from me. Therefore,...good luck on this miles thingy...
