Im doing it. f80 on order. I love the f10 M5 but since i have my new X5 as a daily driver i don't need the extra space/comfort of the M5. I'd rather have something thats more fun and lighter so i ordered the F80 with manual transmission. I really miss having a clutch and i rarely get over 80mph around here so the 0-50mph range is not much different on the M3. It will be much better for me. I had a 335m sport as a loaner and loved the size and handling more than the M5. My M5 is scary fast but not all that fun where i drive. So i'm really excited for the f80. If i drove any long trips i'd rather keep the F10 but since i dont......

Nobody claimed here M5 is the best car in the planet... did they? We just claimed "In Our Opinion" going from M5 to M3 is "step down" ... And I agree with you... These are just cars

I test drove M4 and thought highly of it and probably was more fun to drive and to look at and to throw at tight corners but certainly an overall downgrade which is why I didn't do it but hey thumbs up to every M3/4 driver out there you sir have a terrific car and I believe it holds its own and shouldn't be compared to M5 as even in real life it is like a different weight wrestler!!! |

I test drove the M3 yesterday, after my M6 GC CP, just not in the same ball park, looked cheap inside and not the grunt I was expecting.

Its not even close in straight line performance after 60 mph stock vs stock or tuned vs tuned . My M6 CP with the BMS stage 1 or Dinan piggyback with DP's and intakes on 93 pump does 60-130 mph in 7.3-7.5 seconds all day long on a no slope run . That's faster than a JB4 M4 with with race gas mix and meth and upgraded turbos (7.6 60-130) lol .

One if my 0-160 crew sold his m6 and bought a m4. He said he hated it and it was cheap compared to the m6. Said he put 1k miles in it and was lucky enough to buy his m6 back. He said after spending all that seat time he was convinced the 6 toppled the 3 or 4

I daily a f80 but have been given the privilege to drive a '15 m5 CP for extended periods of time. Luxury wise the m5 wins in practically every aspect, even down to the size of the iDrive screen. Dead pull in a straight line again goes to the m5. Nimbleness and fun factor..I feel it's up to the individual. They each have their own fun and it's personal preference. I enjoy the volume of the f80 exhaust but love the rawness of the f10 sound..just my 2 cents

Just had the opportunity to do more extended runs with the f80 and really can never see myself making the switch. It's an awesome car and I have no quibble with anyone buying it but the reduced weight/nimbleness just doesnt outweigh the pull of the M5+added interior. If I was trying to get another car for driver feel it would be a 911, not the M3.

That's the problem the F10 M5 crowd will have from here on out. The M5's pull is just insane and we are used to it. We will not be satisfied ever again unless the car is lighter and has way more power than the current M5. The Hellcat sedan providing a lot of the latter.

If I want a grand tourer / sports sedan - buy an m5 If I want a true sports car which is light and nimble - buy an Audi R8 or Porsche. The m3 is a compromise in between the two; As a GT / sports sedan, it's not as good as an m5 As a sports car, it's not as good as a Porsche / R8. |

My UK dealer tried to sell me an M3 or M4 encouraging me to part exchange my M6 GC CP , he said the M3/4 were hard to get hold of here in the UK.
I said go on the internet and you will find 100's for sale as no one wants one. Test drive was nothing to speak of.

Going from M5 to M4 is an upgrade regarding driving experience for me. It's more like a raw M car.
But it's a downgrade in terms of luxury and comfort.

Life is a journey
I have a long list of cars I would like to own and drive. The M5 was high on my list and I'm not disappointed but I wouldn't hesitate to switch to another, less luxurious model, if it did some things better than my M5. My next car will probably be smaller and lighter, with less HP and Torque but in all likelihood not any slower, at least not from A to B.
My goal is simply to thoroughly enjoy every drive. |
