M4 steering wheel on PRE-LCI M5???
Hi guys.
I found a complete steering wheel from the M4 with airbag and on. I see the part numbers aren't the same for the M4/M5LCI/M6 regarding the steering wheel. I found out that the M4 steering wheel should be like 5 mm smaller in diameter or so, but the question is, will it fit? I can get it relatively cheap! Thanks |

Before you go for it, you need to talk to an experienced technician or ask your SA to check and confirm with his technician. The reason I'm bringing to your attention is "SAFTY" feature of airbag. Usually air bags have different threshold and this threshold depends on amount of force is transferred to the body in case of accident. That's very accurate engineering calculation and that's why you can't install any airbag unless the one is rated for that particular car. I'm sure M3/M4 (due to lighter weight and different chassis) have different airbags compare to M5 while your steering wheel includes the driver's airbag...

Yes in theory but not practically since you need to remove the steering wheel first. I recall long time ago a member mentioned you need to remove the airbag first to have access to other assemblies and you must be very careful to prevent air bag deployment.

I have done this a couple of times on my other cars, shouldn't be a big problem though. The issue is whether or not I should order the steering wheel

Actually, the B5S was an airplane on the german autobahn did 317 km/h stock on paper, did go above 330 though. The B3 was fully tuned to around 440rwhp, the B3S biturbo reached about 524rwhp on pumpgas (dryweight 1560KG!!) absolute beast. I have ordered: BMS stage 1, K&N filters, intake plugs (IF my car has holes - lol) and now looking into an exhaust |

But how much is an LCI M5 steering wheel? Same as the M4 wheel but slightly larger?
I'd rather just get the M5 one and save the hassle if I were you.

So there is a reason you are cross shopping M5 over current B5

M Drivers Package makes such a difference. Don't like that it's not offered in the U.S.

Other than looks, is there any other reason you want to do this? Seems to me that the circumference of the wheel should match the vehicle you're driving to a point since the turning radius of the M4 is less than the M5, it might pose problems. Do you just like smaller steering wheels? Otherwise, why not a different M5 specific wheel like the Alcantara M perf one, et al?
