Drag Strip Trouble

So last night I took my 2013 M5 to the track for the 1st time. My first pass was my best at 11.81 at 122 with a 1.9 60 foot. All night I struggled with traction and was unable to do a burn out. Is there any tips you guys might have for improving both issues. I've done many burnouts before in my old camaro but look like a complete rookie in this car as the power just dies.

My fast run traction control was off but I believe DSC kick in, the next 2 runs TC was on, run a 12.48 and 12.34. Last run off ran a 12.32.

Turn traction control totally off. I've been able to do burn out doing that.
I usually just easy into power slowly to get car moving a bit then just floor it.

So do you hold the brake while you floor it or just let the car spin to the pre stage beam?

I'd say your time is pretty good even with traction issues.
If you are running stock tires I would just do a quick spin to get any water off if you drove through the water box.

With my drag radials on, I hold on the brake and floor the gas. The car will just lurch a bit but the revs will not come up. Then I just begin to lightly lift up on the brake. At a certain point the engine will kick in and the car will begin to do a brake stand. With practice you can figure out how to give it just enough brake so that the engine does not cut out but yet you are still riding the brakes. Do it right and the car will barely creap ahead. A bit hard on the diff I think especially with drag radials.

Since I'm still on stock tires, I just spin it long enough to get the water off of them. I just mash on the gas and it will start to spin.

Then after that I set everthing to my preset M1 button: MDM mode, tranny d3, acceleartion sport+, suspension to comfort and steering to comfort. I haven't tried LC. May have to try it at least once to see if I can get a faster 1/4 time.

And I imagine you are using manual mode when racing? Do you ever let the car shift ?

I use to use manual mode, but now let the car shift itself. Gotten my fastest time doing that.

Hate to revive an old thread but I plan on heading out to Baytown (Houston **** drag strip) tomorrow night for the first time in the M5 - and the first time down a track in 10 years.

Anyone have any tips for drive settings and launching (other than the good ones listed in the thread)?

Tires are PZero 305/30/20's. Any tire pressure reccommendations?

Thanks!
