Pebble Beach reveal: M4 GTS and 3.0 CSL Hommage

Looks like the 2 mystery models being unveiled at Pebble Beach will be M4 GTS & revised 3.0 CSL Hommage.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/mo...d-pebble-beach.

BMW will present two concept cars at the Pebble Beach Concours next month, with one set to preview the upcoming M4 GTS, and the other an evolution of the 3.0 CSL Hommage concept revealed in May.

The hot M4 GTS will take inspiration from BMW’s M4 MotoGP safety car, revealed back in February. It’s expected to go on sale in the summer of 2016.

The car uses a new water injection system to regulate the temperature of its turbocharger; as a result power from the M4’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre straight six engine is increased to as much as 467bhp, well up from the standard model’s 425bhp.

Both the current M3 and M4 are due to receive the water injection technology as part of a planned facelift next year.

The M4 GTS concept shown at next month’s event will be a thinly disguised version of the real car, with only minor styling changes differentiating it from the production version.

Designed to be a stripped-out, track-focused version of the regular M4, the GTS is likely to offer a significantly lower kerb weight compared with the standard car’s 1572kg. It should also feature modified aerodynamic bodywork and could include the same fixed rear wing as the MotoGP car.

The M4 GTS was inadvertently made known to the public after it was listed under the 4 Series section of BMW’s US website in May. The previous usage of the GTS badge was on an extreme variant of the previous-generation M3, in 2010. Only 150 examples of that car were made.

BMW has a history of previewing its fast cars at Pebble Beach. In 2013, the firm showcased a concept version of the M4 Coupe at the event.

It’s also understood that BMW will show an updated version of its 3.0 CLS Hommage concept car at Pebble Beach, with an image of the car’s steering wheel design being released on social media.

First unveiled at the Concourso d’Eleganza Villa d'este event in May, the 3.0 CSL Hommage concept was initially described as a one-off recreation of the classic 3.0 CSL from the early 1970s.

The 3.0 CSL Hommage was billed as a statement of intent, as BMW’s M Division seeks to make more extreme, lightweight cars to rival the likes of Mercedes-AMG’s Black Series models. One of the first cars to be built to that strategy will be the M4 GTS.

Although BMW officials have previously denied there are any plans to put the 3.0 CSL Hommage into production, the car’s second outing at a major motor show could point to plans for a limited-run model being put on sale.

You don't like the CSL?
Its our template for the harder edge exclusive bookend of BMW M.

More focused performance cars but with the latest progressive innovation such as further lightweight materials ,technology and whisper it eDrive features including eBoost.

You will know a CSL because it will be radically different with special Aeropacket and performance equipment.

Its a revival of what CSL stood for in the past Motorsport with progressive innovation but today for a very progressive future.

Report: BMW M4 GTS and updated 3.0 CSL Hommage are concepts headed to Pebble Beach

More information about what may show up at Pebble. What's interesting is the Hommage CSL car. Supposedly it's different from the concept revealed in Italy. According to the author, this model may make it to production.

Perfect.

I will truly be in Hommage if BMW fixed some of the outlandish bodywork.

I'd love to see a more production type homage BUT!.....

This theory then leaves NO M2 reveal...? M4 GTS must be nailed on reveal, adding homage as the 2nd car hmmmmm. Surely that won't be the case??

467 ? Hm, I assume that it will start with the figure "5" (metric hp).

someone correct me if im wrong but if we were to take SCOTT26 clues seriously wouldnt this post mean that the M2 will be at Pebble Beach?
http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showp...&postcount=123
im really not sure how to twist this clue any other way, to me its obvious that he is leading us to believe it will be at Pebble Beach

I bet the teasers premiere at Pebble Beach but no concept car. You've already seen the concept car with the Vision GT.

Exactly the Scott26 post I was thinking of, as well.
I don't have a feel for the dependability of the Autocar magazine information and one statement of this article was, according to Scott26, wrong. But the gist of the article seems to have remained unchallenged. Which, may mean the CSL Hommage, described as an updated version of that car, will make an appearance at Pebble Beach. It remains to be seen what "updated version" actually means. Maybe a more tracked focused version of the M2.

it's probably an M2 CSL concept that takes heavy cues from the CSL Hommage concept a few months back......which wouldn't be a good thing as that concept was wack.

Since the 1M was already marketed as the E30 M3 successor in all its promotional materials, BMW must be searching for a 'different' car to market the M2 CSL as a resurrection of.....so they've chosen the 3.0 CSL it seems.

Would be cool if this comes to fruition.

Does this make sense? If current M3 just received LCI, why would BMW do another one next year?

My guess is that there's a better chance of seeing the production ready M2 as a "surprise" @ Pebble Beach rather than another concept car.

It makes sense that the 3.0 would sort of hold that mantle, and then you have the base M2 along side whatever version of the M4 GTS they bring along as well - we shall see...
