BMW M3 vs Aplina D3

Admittedly this isn't an M5 vs video, however, I believe it is a more relevant comparison...

Weird!!! This Sucklife always tries to show the M3 in bad respect.

He also seemed to prefer the softer Alpina chassis balance and, separately, the 335d engine in E90. With it's smaller, lighter chassis, it is not necessary to tune it in the same way as the F10 to avoid slightly boat like handling nuances. The F30 M Sports now have a supple ride and brilliant handling; a much improved balance over the E90 M sports. In my experience, the torque delivery in the TT diesels is more predictable than the TT M cars, so I would have to agree with his views on this.

Let's not forget his early F10 M5 test:
+ve; stand-out DCT, Veyron-like acceleration, brilliant ride/handling/refinement
-ve; lack of in-cabin noise from V8, good steering with a small 'g'

Then there's his comments on subtle improvements with F10 M5 CP. I believe his reviews are creditable - delivery of which, is obviously subjective.

Given the choice and knowing myself, I would choose the M3 over the D3, but would have to acknowledge the D3 is the more relevant car.

But then again, if buying to a fixed budget, UK base-spec M3s are currently £56K (no discount), whereas base-spec M5s can be picked up for £58K (£17K discount), so perhaps the M5 vs M3 debate does have some relevance?

I looked into Alpina before I got the M5 CP, but since I was looking for a car with firmer damping than an pre-LCI adaptive drive F10, was told by the salesman that Alpina didn't sound right for me (stopped short of a test drive). Having done this, M5 CP ride is too firm on about 1% of UK roads I drive on (mine is mainly a motorway cruiser). If I drove on poorly surfaced roads more often, I don't think I'd stick with the M5 CP.

One of the advantages of Alpina over BMWs in the UK is their residual values.

Not aware of M6 vs B6 by Sutcliffe, however, he has done GT-R vs B6... Chris Harris did M6 vs SL63, which I believe was a factor in @Vic55 considering SL (if I remember correctly).

I definitely enjoy CH's reviews and respect his opinion so it did play a role in getting me to drive the car. I did an all day test drive and was sold and I knew the tune (I had on two previous M157's) would make it even sweeter so I hit the approval button.
