M5 Exhaust flapper mod demonstrated

I have experimented with keeping the exhaust valves open on a new 2015 M5 w/ stock exhaust and I feel the difference is worth it to keep. Please view yourself and come to your own conclusion.

I know others will think otherwise and will want louder, but I think that sounds really good! I'm going from an E92 to this bohemoth because I need the space, but don't want to give up my youth quite yet, lol. So, did you wire your exhaust valves or get the Exhaustmeister thing?

it took about five minutes to wire the valve open.....it normally stays closed until you get to about 3500 rpm and then opens for the brief time you drive in that rpm range. I was very impressed with the exhaust note and NO DRONE !!

Man instead of Akrapovic exhaust, I can spend that $9k on getting Vorsteiner carbon fiber lip because they make the best one hands down (my opinion).

Anyone know if you get Carbon Fiber tips to just put over the M5 stock exhaust?

What kind of wire did you use? Will heavy duty zip ties work also?

Sounds great... a lot better than when valves are closed for sure.

Can you get heat resistant zip ties?

I did mine with zip ties yesterday...will find out soon if they can resist the heat...I have catless Downpipes and stock exhaust...the sound is great in idle, revving, and low speed

I've still yet to hear the stock exhaust combined with catless downpipes. I'm so intrigued by that setup. No one has made any video of that yet.

Sweet!
Thanks for posting this video. The one I posted exhaustmeister and Noelle 400 cell DPs with comp pkg. exhaust was not that good and did not get a great response.

Keeping the valves open IMO really helps the exhaust note for these vehicles as so much of our driving is stop and go and so much of the vehicles life is spent at these lower RPMs.

The after market exhausts like E Race, Akra etc I'm sure are better but also very pricey. I chose to put the $$ toward the DPs for both better sound quality and extra HP

I just noticed that the zip ties had come loose before recording the video. I'll try keeping the valves open and record another video later this week.

Sounds good bro. I like this. The one diff I can tell is there is lil to no turbo whine compared to our aftermarket exhaust. Still sounds mean

Gents - I had my exhaust valves tied open earlier in the summer and the extra sound is just about right. Sounds a bit more aggressive. Just used some medium grade wire and it has been solid. It is worthwhile.
