It's louder, just find a forum member competition package (resonators are deleted on comp pack exhaust).

Wait so are these flaps on my 2013? And it doesn't screw up any electronics holding them in the open position?

Wonder how it would make stock CP M5 sound? Even better?

Yes they are on your car. No it will not mess anything up when held open.

Thanks. I wonder if there is a fuse that controls the exhaust valve. That would be even easier than tying the valve open.

No. They are vacuum actuated. i.e the exhaust pressure pushes them open depending on throttle position etc...

I'm guessing this is a bad idea if the m5 is leased? Same goes for exhaustmeister?

Why do think that? Both options can be easily reversed to stock. I see this as less intrusive to those that leased cars and bought after market exhausts that had to be cut and welded, then reversed at lease end.

I was just worried about the BMW Techs seeing that the vacuum based system has been permanently held open and this being logged into the onboard computer records?

What is the actual purpose of these valves

Sounds like a great idea, I am considering doing it as well. But can somebody actually enlighten me as to the original purpose of these valves. Why are they there in the first place? Depending on that answer, a decision will be much easier.

Thanks so much for your insights.

no u dont have to jack up the car to wire open the valves. there are other posts that show you how to do it.....it is so easy, took less than five minutes per exhaust. all you need is medium size wire and some wire cutters. big diff in the tone at start up and louder during daily driving....and when u open it up you will unleash the beast..... see my video on earlier thread.

Purely noise only, the valves open at 3.5K Rpm anyway in sport or sport+, keeping them open makes the sound so much better and no drone.

H,

The exhaust flaps do control sound, but they also form part of the emission control system so wiring permanently open could impact function & longevity of catalytic converter. Wiring open may also impact efficiency in the warm up phase as I would expect the ECU to adjust settings to compensate.

Impact on warranty dependant on attitude of your dealership, how long car is to be kept (may not experience any ill effects in the short term), etc.

It would be interesting to get a view from a Master Technician, however, I'd imagine the response would be 'it's not recommended' rather than anything more insightful.

My M6 GC CP warms up quicker than my outgoing LCI M5 , both had the Valves wired open, the M5 for 12K miles , no problems at all, my ECU must have adapted on both cars by now.
M6 GC CP is more economical too.
PS) in my experience , master techs have less knowledge than we do.

Did it.. prefect/slight tone increase that sounds great. Thanks for the recommendation O.-P. ! Will be doing the cyba tips next, to match the sound increase soon.
Considering I am not yet ready to bite the 8k$ bullet of getting the Akra exhaust, this is great to enhance the factory sound.
