Ultimate house protection

I was driving back from thai food restraunt this evening with the ol' lady and we were speaking about security measures for the new house. We wanted to install something that would be cool and very secure for entering the house.

Scenario 1: Once in the house activate a system where if someone on the outside touches either one of the door knobs then it provides a serious shock tot he hand. Just enough shock to warn them off.

Scenario 2: Simple motion detection system but when the motion detection is activated then so is a camera recording that specific area of detection.

Trying to see if anyone knows where I can find such a thing...or put the idea together to find one... Also if anyone knows better detection and prevention systems besides the regular old security based alarms that takes cops 15 20 minutes to get there.

I'm from the South though. In reality, a nice ADT alarm should suffice, if you want to go overboard I'm sure there's a plethora of security companies out there willing to build you a custom system, although a motion detector+camera isn't too complicated, you probably could do it yourself.

you must be in a not great area to want something that shocks people haha.

I'd say get a well trained guard dog and a good alarm and that shotgun. something that shocks someone will only piss them off further, especially if they are already there to cause harm. security cameras are a good idea as well if you relly need them,

Alarm companies can usually set you up with high tech systems. Some companies offer motion detectors, cameras, alarm pads with monitors, view your house on your phone, siren, etc. I think one of the simplest items you can install is a device that takes a picture of anyone that rings your doorbell. I saw that on Discovery's "how to catch a thief" or something like that. Basically it's installed near your doorbell and whenever someone steps up to it it would snap a picture. I think it can send the picture to your computer or something like that.

I've just spent the last week or two researching security systems for my warehouse after a spate of thefts.

Samsung has a system with a DVR and 4 cameras, 2 of which are night vision. You can set up at various points and they will record when motion is detected. Also, they can be remotely viewed from any computer and your iPhone. Sam's Club has the set with a 500GB DVR for around $550.

I like ADT. I've had them for a while, and even though I live in one of the safest cities in America (literally), it's nice to know that there is a layer of protection there just in case.

+1, who would you rather rob, the house with meen sounding barking dog who just attracted the attention of the whole neighborhood or the house next door with an ADT sign that's probably never even turned on.

I usually wouldn't comment on post like this, but it's just simply inaccurate.

Most people screen dog noise subconsciously because dogs often bark at night for food, or attention. Also because of requirements in many cities for "safe enclosure" of pets, many dogs won't even be able to get into the house to "defend" against a home invasion. Having an ADT sign is actually a big deterrent to potential robbers if it's displayed prominently. It's not there just for advertising, it's part of the deterrent.

Additionally ADT in my city has a 2 minute, and 18 second average response time if the alarm isn't deactivated by a code in time. Not sure if there are many burglars that could manage to rip off a safe in 2 minutes, but it's not a lot of time before you are going to be facing some deputies with their guns drawn.

ADT is completely dependent on the response time of your local Police Department. I lived in a small town in NJ and the response time was a couple of minutes because we were a couple of blocks from the main road and only a couple more from the actual Police station. Here in Albuquerque the response time is closer to an hour, so having ADT is pretty much meaningless. That is why the private armed security companies are becoming successful here.

My parents have a ADT system in their house. Siren, motion sensors... No cameras though. Think it cost about a grand but this was round the year of 2000?

But even if you don't want to spend alot, Sams Club does have a few nice systems.

Just having a sign out front of your house saying you have a security system usually does deter some thieves though bc they will think twice (even if you dont have one)

I was thinking something like this should do.

[u2b]QNu0sR89_BM&NR=1[/u2b]

Or something like this mounted around your front door. If the alarm goes off, he gets toasted!

Motion detector systems are nice, but they also tend to be a real pain in the ***. When I was a kid, we had a motion detector system, and it would go off at even the slightest thing, like a housefly or a cricket that made it indoors. It also sucks when someone gets up in the morning and forgets to switch the alarm off, setting off the entire system when they go to make a cup of coffee.

We had a local electronics guy set our system up. Last year, the thing was for guys to break in doors during the middle of the day whether someone was there or not. So we have all the doors and windows set, but also put up 4 IR cameras that can be put anywhere and set up on iphone/android control as well.
Oh yeah, the SIG SAUER will help too

Motion detectors should not go off with house fly or cricket. Typically people do not turn on motion detectors when they are home.
