Yeah man, that's exactly how it is. I do know for a fact that a dealership makes more money, sometimes up to 2x more in certain months, from the service department than they do in sales. And in service, a significant portion of their income comes from alignment and tires. And how they make so much money is because a tire is one thing that a dealer can, completely without BMW's knowledge, buy from an outside retailer for less than half the price and sell it at BMW's premium retail. If you think about it, every other part on our cars is sold by BMW. Even tires can be bought from BMW, but dealers are very shady and can always go to a third party supplier.

I always get my set from tirerack. Have been doing that for years. And if I have to get a new tire. I just order them from tire rack. Take them to a tire shop and pay for balancing and always put them on myself.

The other thing I want to point out is the importance of torque specs on our lug bolts. Dealers will always use an impact. They are not going to take the time to properly torque all bolts to 103 ft/lbs. Not to mention, they are not going to tell you, hey go drive 200-300 miles, then come back, so we can re-torque them. Cars like M5s with so much torque has to have their rear tires (and even fronts) re torqued after 200 miles. It makes a significant difference! You would be amazed how loosen those bolts get and to think that people drive like that for thousands of miles makes me cry!

19" will not fit ccb. BMW makes 20" winter wheels for this very application. I believe they are the 409M.

Check getbmwparts for details.

Hey Guys! I plan on running the OEM 343 style 20' wheel on a square setup Dunlop Wintersport 255/35r20 all around. Previously, I had a square tire set up on my e60 m5 and loved it.

Over the last few weeks, I've tried to look around for a 19' wheel but couldn't find anything that will clear brakes.

I'm in the process of putting on continental DWS tires on the existing 20" rims with a square setup using the front tire size. These tires are rated for snow so they should be good for the winter assuming you are not trying to drive in a lot of snow.

Temperatures are dropping next week in north east to low of 40s. I will give it one more week and swap them out. What do you guys think?

And 1 more question- what do you guys do to prep you summer wheel+tire setup for winter storage? Anyway to do a thorough cleaning and doing a sealant?

Too early in my opinion. I wait until the temps are routinely below 40 for both my morning and evening commutes. The summer tires don't get really squirrelly until you get close to freezing.

I give them a good cleaning, rubber dressing and wheel wax. That way they're ready to go in the spring.

I will wait until the beginning of December.

I bought Pirelli Sottozero Series II in our actual stock sizes (265/35/20 & 295/30/20) which I will put on my stock rims and I will store the summer PSS for the winter, at least until the end of March.

Quite honestly, buying a set of wheels and tires is just cost prohibitive and you can buy a beater or rent a truck for less money.

Also, I read above someone is buying Conti DWS to use for winter. MISTAKE!!!!!
That is an All-Season tire. It is NOT a winter tire. In a car as powerful and RWD as the M5 using an All-Season tire in winter is putting you at significantly increased risk, especially during extreme cold or any level of snow. DON'T DO IT.

I wanted something better than the summer tires so that I can drive the car in the winter. I have an X5 with winter tires which I drive in the snow, if needed. I've heard good things about these tires so I can't imagine they will be bad if there's a little bit of snow on the ground.

I just put my winter tires on today. I am not going to be driving for 2 weeks and the low temps are dropping into 30s in next 5 days. Damn this is one nice winter! Walked around in a short sleeve polo today.
