Don't ever go with the lowest price - use only a very established/reputable firm - I can tell you horror stories of cars that have been very badly damaged in transit & your recourse against the shipper is minimal as you will be bound by their standard cargo terms & conditions.

This firm is at the upper end of the scale - but it will give you a feel of what to look for:

Ive used montway about 3 times. Never an issue.

However they are a broker, so the work is sent out to other truck companies.

Go to 6speedonline to request a quote, as I believe they may give a discount for that forum membership.

I've never used them, but was going to once. They've gotten a lot of good reviews. I think they only ship enclosed.

I've never over paid for this service and always got excellent service even with the lowest price. Most of them are just brokers and they dispatch you out to the actual trucker. Just make sure that you obtain a copy of the trucker's insurance policy.
I just shipped a $90k Gelandewagen G550 from Boston to Atlanta on an open truck for $800 without a problem.
Also ask the broker to put your car on a direct ship truck where they don't offload and reload several times.

Some of this enclosed transports make me nervous. A lot of them aren't designed for cars, and they are too narrow, so he's going to touch the wall getting the car in and out. Plus some of them have stairs inside to exit which also creates a hazard.

I agree with Jagu - if you don't get a specialist carrier like Intercity, then have a broker find a good flatbed with a direct non-stop route. Value of closed transport is overrated - it's not like rock chips fly that high, and your car is shielded by the cab. Your M5 made its original transport from docks to dealership in an open carrier.
