Official info on AMS new M5 ECU flash tune, from IND!

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com

After two years of waiting, the F10 M5’s S63tu engine control has been unlocked to tuners with the M5 community buzzing with a palpable excitement. IND understands that unlocking the car’s engine control is only half of the picture- after learning to effectively communicate with the ECU, we must also understand how to properly modify the engine’s behavior and look at all engine components from a complete system perspective. Changing one aspect of the engine’s behavior will impact all of the other parameters as well.

It is precisely this understanding, and this level of complete system control that an open ECU allows, and a piggy back controller can never achieve. It is precisely for this reason that IND dropped our M5 at AMS for research and development nearly two years ago, eschewing the easy to obtain alternatives offered by cheap, low quality piggy back controllers. Today, we are proud to announce that our (and your) wait is over.

AMS Performance has finally released an Alpha tune for the F10 M5, and as expected the first M5 to be tuned by AMS has yielded incredible results. The months of testing and development on IND’s own F10 M5 have given AMS a running start, and combined with AMS’ incredible knowledge of tuning and engine control systems will now ensure that AMS performance software continues to be an industry leader in the F10 M5 market. AMS has an absolutely one-of-a-kind history within the tuning community. AMS has set records in drag racing, road racing, time attack, and nearly every other form of motorsport, starting from their humble beginnings with DSM cars, and finally moving to Evo and GTR platforms. The tuning community knows that an AMS Alpha car is an absolutely fearsome machine.

AMS’ Alpha tune for the M5 will include:

* 100 horsepower gain over the factory power output
* True ECU reflash, balancing the critical parameters of the engine for safe operation
* Top speed limiter removal
* CEL removal

Ilia let me know when this tune becomes available for sale as I'll have my ECU's removed and send them in!

seems like a good tune but for $3000 I expect a Dinan like warranty and without that there is no way in hell I would pay $3k.

I agree. Also, to have to remove your ECU, send it in and be without your car for however long, no warranty coverage (as of yet) then the expense is just probative for me. The claimed gains are fantastic (as advertised) along with CEL and speed limiter delete though. I am sure lots of people will jump on this, but I'll patiently wait for OBD2 flash, some sort of warranty or a much lesser cost. I have a feeling I'll be waiting as long as the next gen M5 release.

Bronch I understand you skeptical about sending you ecu's in but no need to be dramatic. I can imagine a three to four day turnaround before your back on the road. So your saying you'd rather a piggy back tune that's harder on your engine but with a warranty then a true ecu flash that comes from a company like Ams?

At a 3k price tag this is a gift, we as f10 owners are luck iND got ams to work on the platform. Be positive and live a little.

Dramatic, what are you talking about? Whatever. I don't have the expertise to remove the ECU then wait for the mail and AMS to do their thing and wait for ground shipping again. 4 days? Come on. And then expect BMW to honor the warranty if something goes awry on your your new 100HP addition? So, a piggy back tune is "harder" on your engine? Please post some evidence.

While 3,000 seems steep, we have to factor in the R&D these guys have put in. Time ain't cheap, and these guys have definitely struck down the Goliath of ECUs. Plus there are pretty much no after market tunes (I know of) that offer powertrain warranties. For example, a GIAC tune for a 991 Turbo costs about the same or more, but offers no warranty. Instead, there is a disclaimer

"Improving the performance of an engine by altering the engine's computer software may cause the engine to "work harder" and could result in damage to the car. The user assumes these risks."

Same story here. I doubt there are full bolt on GTRs and Turbos sporting some type of warranty. I'll be damned if they do though lol

Congrats on drilling an ecu... Let us know when a true ecu download and hand tuner with diagnosis capabilities are available Couse if the user is responsible for better performance were gonna need to be able to see what the ses light means...
Looking forward to a ams tune on a cobb accesport just like gtrs...

My cash is ready burning a hole in my pocket

Its today's technological car world, a re flash of the ECU will always triumph over a piggy back unit. 99% of enthusiasts should agree here. In a small analogy. On my 328i e90, (rwd) I had "active autowerks" reflash the entire ECU, boosting power Almost 25hp from an NA engine mind you. NO intake, exhaust, turbos, etc. But the entire driving experience was different from that one reflash, something a piggy back can't do. By a long shot. I Applaud AMS and IND here. They are def on to something. One day I would like to see a tune as simple as APR for the Audi's, which is straight to the OBDII.
