Best tyre for F10 M5 as daily driver
My vehicle service check identified tyre tread running low and cracks developing in tyre sides, possibly due to me now driving the car less frequently and it stays parked most of the time.
1. What tyres (brand, type) are the best option for me to invest in now, for the next few years? Currently on stock Pirellis. No track driving, only city driving with occasional holiday driving across the UK. Currently my mileage is well under 3,000 miles/ 5,000km per year. 2. Is the tyre size different between front and rear 3. Looking for all weather tyres ideally but if not recommended, then summer tyres would be fine 4. How do I avoid the tyre cracks due to parking? How often should I be driving it to prevent this from happening? Thanks guys, as always!

Pirelli's are generally a no with most on here as they lose grip too early. All weather tyres? You'll have a bit more grip in bad weather but the short spell of snow and ice here is simply not worth the expense and they'll be useless sliding around with the softer compound when the going gets good.
Just go with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S as most do, they are the best for these M's and if parking up for a while just spray the tyres with silicone to preserve and drive it a couple times a week not to keep the tyres in the same place or roll it forward or back a foot or two. |

It is but a few like me have added 305/30/20's on the rears for more grip, that extra cm does make a difference and adding 5mm spacers just on the back (with extended lug nuts) makes it more stable on take-off and in the bends.

That's interesting! Do you need the spacers and extended lug nut for the 305s or can it still work without those?

No you don't need the spacers, plenty of room for the tyre on the inside there's no rubbing. If you do have the 5mm spacers it's fine to use the standard locking wheel nut with the extended lugs.

I'm sorry but this is all new to me. I pretty much always drive stock.
So the 5mm spacers are for aesthetic purpose (the wider stance, I'm guessing) + you mentioned better grip. Would that be a significant advantage for normal driving or more focused on race or tracks?

It's a personal choice for me on the occasional moments I use full 'go' having those spacers, I just feel the take off is more clean and it looks good with the slightly wider rear track, some do fit even wider spacers front and back but to start of you can do without.
I also have an extended brake pedal for left foot braking when pushing on but that's another subject. |
