I can't imagine why anyone would want a manual transmission in a luxury car, especially in the US with stoplights rather than rounders.

If you want the full M5 experience. The One that showcases the engineering excellence and technical prowness of M. Then there is no choice but the M-DCT. Which was engineered to be the transmission of choice of the new M5. Every aspect of the M5 works through the M-DCT and that is where one important element of its ultimate brilliance shines through.

The manual is not on par with the M-DCT.

I am willing to bet that even if they brought the M1 back...it would not have anywhere near 1000hp

Why get a 5er and not the crown jewel of the group. Price aside, the M5 is the only way to go. Almost like being with your girl and pulling out

I am going to get mine in 2014. Need to enjoy S85 V10 for little bit more.

The technical debate between M-DCT and 6MT was concluded long ago (M-DCT is technically superior with Launch Control, perfect shifts, and the chance to left-foot brake when needed), but that's irrelevant because technical advantage is not the point of offering the 6MT.

6MT offers an "M Pure," fully-involved driving experience, especially for drivers legally held below 80mph as in North America, except when visiting a race track. Furthermore, driving an M5 (all M cars, in fact) was traditionally a manual transmission experience and many North American customers savor the chance to maintain the skills they developed to drive M cars. We proudly serve those customers with the 6MT option on this car. Driving a manual transmission is seen by many BMW owners as a way to reduce distraction and improve focus while driving.

Having driven a few thousand miles in the M5 with both M-DCT and 6MT configurations, I've been telling people that the M5 feels "...like a 150% scale 1 Series M Coupe, but with sharper response, more feedback, and even better stability." To complete the experiential connection to the 1M, a driver would obviously need the 6MT. That is also the "full M5 experience."

Hi everybody,

Is there any proof that US will only get 2013 model? Does anybody believe that there is a chance that 2012 MY production will begin in March until August? The wait is killing me

Hi. Everything you read in the first post of this thread is directly and official from BMW NA. It's their answers to our questions to them at the Detroit auto show.

US will only get 2013 model and production for US market begins in July.

You're welcome. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. But hopefully you'll be able to live vicariously through our European member's deliveries for just a few more months.

I can say this in all honesty that it is sooo refreshing to hear well put comments together like your yours. My name is on the list and look forward to getting my 6MT M5 - it was great to experience it in Ascari but can't wait to get here back home! Frankly speaking I would not buy this car if it did not come in 6MT and glad that BMW is still catering to MT drivers like myself. Mark my words this will be a huge win for the brand and guaranteed that this M5 will crush all previous records set by the e39 and e60.

Thanks BMWNA_MGuy for explaining the joys of driving a manual M5

I myself have already signed up for a manual transmission M5. Just a bit sad that I have to wait a few more months. I was contemplating on making a European Delivery trip around June/July after the initial plans of a March 2012 production rollout for U.S. bound M5's. Now that it is official that M5 production for the U.S. will only start in July 2012, I will have to alter plans for a September 2012 European Delivery trip. Am thankful though that a manual transmission M5 for U.S. customers has been made official, otherwise, I would have pulled off my order and look for something else.

I'm agree! I'm not interested in a non-traditional 6MT M-car.

Future 6MT M5 owner

European delivery is expected to be available starting in August, so no need to wait until September if you're looking to do ED as early as possible.
