The "fix" is only for cars with a build date prior to 3/2013

Jan,
To clarify, per SI B33 01 13, will BMW cover all F10 M5s for the retrofit if they have a build date prior to 3/13 regardless of whether there is a noticeable clunk which can be very subjective. Thanks. |

If you have the clunk, you will notice it. In my experience, and the experience of some of the other early adopters on this board, there is absolutely no doubt when you have the clunk. You can't miss it.

My question was more pointed about whether BMW recognizes this as a universal problem for all pre-3/13 cars. Mine is a Sept. 2012 production that barely has 1,000 miles on it. I don't know if this is a progressive issue or not, but I don't want to wait and see.
I checked with my local BMW dealer and they have heard of the problem but the bulletin hasn't been issued as per Jan's post. |

The problem does not develop over time , it is more pronounced depending on the road surface/quality

Sib 33 01 13
I had this work performed on my July 2012 build with great results. The rear end is quiet, planted, and the overall ride/handling of the vehicle is much improved.
The process was as follows. The dealer opened a PUMA case referencing SIB 33 01 13. I initially visited the dealer for two brief test drives. The first drive was with one passenger - the service manager. The second drive was with three passengers - the service manager, the technician that would perform the repair, and a service adviser. It took less than 5 minutes and the clunking was more pronounced with three passengers in the vehicle. As others have experienced, there was a delay getting parts. And there was another 1-day delay when the technician discovered a couple of missing bolts in the repair kit. Otherwise, it was a positive experience and I am very pleased with the results. |
