V12, although not strictly on topic, have you coded & tested the 'glarefree' function features on any cars without LEDs? If so, did you notice any discernible difference in the quality of the lighting between the LEDs & the Xenons, for example sharper edge to the lights, etc.?

I can assure you that the visibility pack on the E60 5 series had adaptive bi-xenons (checked my initial order sheet yesterday). However, this is the last I will say about it. I reiterate however that these lights are not with the new BMW intelligent technology; my high beam assist only turns on when it deems it neccessary, unlike the scenario with the Intelligent technology which turns off when it deems fit.
It's High beam assist thats changed.

Hi - I haven't tried (yet).
If that's what you have, I'd be interested in pocking around (to deny my feeling that it won't be possible).

Thanks.

I have a UK spec car (the rare LCI with Xenons) so the glarefree should be configured as std (haven't tried it yet). May have to get the GoPro out and go for a night drive

Just thought I'd ask about the difference between LED & Xenon lighting quality as your more likely to have an informed view through your coding work, although I'm getting a feeling that most in US will spec LEDs.

Dionysus,
One thing I can tell you is that the light quality of the LEDS is alot better than I expect over the Xenons. I had my M3 with Xenons out a few nights ago on the motorway and really noticed that the light was not as good. I honestly thought there would be no difference in them but there is a lot of difference.

Neil.

That's what I suspected (and expected for BMW to justify the extra cost); what is the difference exactly - more light, different colour temp, sharper edge to lit areas (hence, more noticeable effect to the 'glarefree') - may have to reconsider my decision not to retrofit the LEDs (would not do it if purely cosmetic)

v12, apologies for the thread jack.

The beam pattern is much more precise ... It lights up much more of the road in Both modes ... But talking about low beam ... The color of the light is much more "white" than that of HIDs ... The cutoff is very defined. For the $2k that IND wants for the retrofit isn't bad and almost the exact price of the option on an LCI.

Thanks, sound like it is worth the upgrade, light from std xenons on F10 isn't as good as I was expecting, but could just be that I have not yet adjusted to the automatic headlight range control as opposed to 'fixed' xenons.

$2K is a bargain - £1495 option from new just for the LEDs in UK. We need an IND over here!

I'd offer to buy them from IND and ship them to the UK ... but you wouldn't see much savings ... as £1495 is about $2450 USD ... I would estimate you would eat up your savings in shipping fees overseas.

Edit: Just checked the IND site ... pricing on these LEDs is up to $2995 USD!

Thanks; retrofit via BMW dealer will be more than £1495, judging by what you've just said I'll guess they'll be £3K+... starting to go off the idea again now...

Most impressive hands down...

But always with these features which use a constantly working electric engine I wonder... will they last? having to work so much time? Dunno why, these things always seem to me like low reliability gadgets...

Thanks to V12 for getting my car set-up. He was able to enable the glare-free function on my LCI with highbeam assistant only. Seems to work as advertised. Thanks again!

Just realized I have the toggle with the neon greens and headlight. Haven't used at night. Assume it's for highbeam assist? Can you code that intelligent feature for me when you fix my seatbelt warning chime????

Hey V12.. sorry if this is a duplicate message for you, but I wanted to see if you could help me (or direct me to a source) to get the full functionality of the adaptive LED headlights on my 2014 5 series?

So, let me make sure I am on the same page.

I understsand in the US, the highbeam has to be turned on manually.

But are you saying, the 'glarefree' function of the adaptive LED isn't even turned on in US cars?

Yes. Present government regulations do not allow the functionality.

You need to code it. there is a forum in 6post about this function and a guy claimed the coding for this..

No quite.. its only half way on... the only thing enabled is on/off toggle

Once coded, the high beams do much much more.
The full adaptive doesn't shut the high beams off in most cases, instead it uses beam steering and shaping to change the positions of the high beams to not blind the car you pass or come up from behind on... once past the other cars, they rethrow out to their full power
