I tried to order my car with the dark chrome parts (kidney grills with night vision, side vents, door handles and exhaust tips) through BMW Individual, they wanted $4500 and it was going to delay my already scheduled ED another 3 weeks. As far as I know they won't sell these parts unless they came with your car, except for the non night vision kidney grill.

They're using OEM parts. How could the quality be any better than original manufacturer?

To the OP - I have part numbers for all of these things (took significant amounts of work) but none show up yet in any systems. I'll share them once I confirm they're accurate.

Sadly BMW is protecting the F10 M5 special edition parts more aggressively than I have ever seen. I have VIN and part numbers for the steering wheel, side grilles etc... They will not release them to the public.

They are protecting them, but it's a model specific only to BMW UK. I'm not sure why they're being so restrictive outside of that market.

I do have the part numbers and think I've managed to convince a garage in London to sell them to me. (Bribing parts managers is always fun.)

I'm heading to London on business in 2 weeks to hopefully get the bits I want along with a few other EU-specific parts, like tails, bumper, first aid kit, etc.

I just purchased equivalents of most of this stuff from iND, but you can't beat original OEM.

Neil - I'll ping you when I'm in London. I'll see if I can get you hooked up, too.

+1 on IND, but for the wheels and other parts (trim on door handle), you can have done yourself. I had all chrome (including tips) painted black on my F12 M6. Came out great!

The same holds true for the M3 GTS, you cannot buy parts from it if you don't have a VIN that matches.

Even cars like the 1-series Active-E have such 'protection'. Many folks have tried to buy the hood from the Active-E (it has a bulge/power dome), but not possible unless you own/have a repair order for an Active-E.

BMW is even turning down GTS owners for new parts. They must send photos of the damaged parts to BMW or have the local dealership inspect them before releasing the new parts.

Im not seeing the hype around these M5 parts though - arent all of them easily replicated? IND provides gills/grills, and couldn't you just paint/powdercoat the rims to match? Or are the rims different. The door handle piece is easy, just pop it off and have it painted. Theres a DIY in the DIY section I believe. I understand OEM is best, but they should look and match almost perfectly.
