Compensation for oil pump replacement

Dear All,
I have asked for a one month lease paid by BMW and my dealer agreed immediately, should i have asked for more? What do you fellow M5 drivers think would be reasonable to ask for?

I personally think that's more than fair assuming the car is fixed and back in servie in the 2 to 3 weeks guidance provided by BMW NA when they called us about the recall.

Just to be clear, is your dealer covering the payment or is BMW? A couple of people have posted similar news - in one case it sounded like the dealer was stepping up and in the other it sounded like BMW NA agreed to the concession. Given the deal I struck with my dealership for my ED M5, I don't expect them to make a similar consession as it would wipe out most or all of their profit (and frankly I would not ask them to do this as it's not their fault this recall occured). However if BMW NA is making the payment, I will push for similar treatment as a long-time, loyal M owner.

I paid cash for my M5 and don't know what to ask for...I'm thinking a warranty is more impactful than cash. I would love for them to extend my maintenance warranty to 100K!

If it turns out that the cars are only down for three weeks, I don't see any reason why you would want them to buy the car back. Some of you guys need to chill out, drive your loaner and hopefully they will get these cars back to working order soon.

Also if you lease the car and can't drive it for a month, then BMW should pay for that month, but believing that they should compensate you any more then that is just greedy.

At this point I think we need to see how long the outage lasts. For the lease/finance customers BMW should pay 1/30th of the payment for every day the car is out of service. For the customers who purchased outright extend the warranty until 100K miles/6 yrs.

BMW will not do anything until this issue is resolved. Each customer will be compensated on a case by case basis. If customer A is down for 3 days and customer B is down for three weeks, then customer B would get compensated more vs customer A. Just my $.02

I literally had my M5 for 2 days when BMW contacted me and informed me about the recall .. I thought one of my friends was f*cking w/ me
My dealer called me yesterday and told me that my M5 should ready around the end of October ... I laughed to myself
I've always loved the M5 starting with my E39 to my E60 and now my F10 ...
But I don't love it that much ...

I had my car for ten days and just had the 1300 mile service done.. I was able to enjoy the car for 300 miles and then like a child with his new favorite toy, it was taken away!!! will say the car is amazingly fast,,,! Had a great time on some twisty roads! I would like for BMW to offer 2 day M performance driving school! I understood that it was offered until 2010.. It will not cost them as much as car payments.

I think one thing that's bugging people (including me) is the question of what else might be wrong with this car. We already know that it has a bad oil pump and bad rear coil springs. What other surprises are there? Not sure I want to find out...

Also, I personally don't have good experience with the BMW dealership service departments in my area. I've seen them screw up on jobs simpler than changing oil pumps and springs. I really don't want them to mess with my new car in any significant way - the chances that they'll get the repairs 100% right and without any collateral damage aren't exactly overwhelming. Normally, they wouldn't need to touch it for anything more than simple regular maintenance for years.

I do not think this should not be a major concern. The oil pump recall is not the result of an enginnering design flaw or BMW's use of a generic oil pump in a high performance M engine for which it was not suited. The M5/M6 specific oil pump has operated flawlessly (as far as I know) in the 2012 cars operating around the world. The issue has been isolated to a bad batch of oil pumps provided by one of dozens of suppliers that manufacture parts for the M5/M6. Stuff like this happens but should not cast a cloud over the M5/M6. Sure, the spring issue is likely a (minor) design problem, but also one that does not cause any damage to the car - just an annoying noise.

I am totally sympathetic to this concern. The replacement of an oil pump is the equivalent of open heart surgery, and needs to be done properly by a well-trained technician with experience with this type of repair. I believe BMW should warranty the replacement pump and the oil pan seal for 6 yrs / 100,000 miles (but I do not think an extension of the full warranty is a reasonable ask) to alleviate this concern.

State your source? I haven't seen this but regardless, one engine failure is too much. I wonder if they will compensate me for my frustration/stress associated with having my car taken apart before the break in service is even reached. Oh well s happens, Im ready to see her again.
If I am out even as much as one additional day after she arrives, I will ask for something. Not sure yet? mmmm maybe a keychain?

Spoke to bmwna yesterday, they said they usually warranty a single part for extended times like 100k miles *if* it's not bad enough for a recall and to replace. Highly doubts this will happen to the m5 because part will get replaced. So I am presuming no add'l warranty

Weird pretty sure the 335i HPFP was recalled/replaced and got a 100k warranty on the part.

My car is pending this fix at the VDC in NJ. I spoke to BMW NA. Based on how long my car sits at the VDC without being delivered they will credit me one months payment

Yes in addition to the one payment which BMWFS makes. If you think about it BMWFS really doesnt make that 2nd payment. ED Customers pay an additional .0003 for their money factors/interest rates above US Customers. This in essence means that, you as the ED customer, really make your 2nd paymet. The 2nd payment is just amortized across the remaining 35 payments by the addition of the .0003 to the money factor.

Are you sure it's repaired at the vdc? I just called and was told will be sent to dealership after vdc prep and fixed at dealer. ???
