I agree, I live an hour north of NYC. If we get snow, which is followed by heavy salt on the roads, I wait a few days for the abundance of salt to get off the road.

Guys, don't think that if the proper weather is out, I wont drive the Beast. Its just with low 20 degrees in the mornings all throughout the week, (Which is when I mostly drive), I don't want to experience that feeling of constantly trying to keep the car straight. If it gets to be 45 outside, Ill hop in the M5 and go.

If anyone lived out in the suburbs of PA, you would know how crappy our roads are, and none of them are level. Also many potholes develop through out December and January. I used to drive an E60 550 M sport in the crappy roads with sport summer tires, and it was unbearable.

When ever we anticipate the littlest amount of snow, our roads are covered like no other with salt. In the end we get no snow, and the salt just sits and sits on the roads. The reason why I got a 2003 Porsche Carrera 4, is so I can used it when ever I want to, still drive a Pcar and not worry about messing up a new nice car. Even though I take care of my cars like no other, maybe stealthpilot is the only one who beats me in car care, I dont want the M5 to suffer from the stupid roads and stupid road conditions we have here.

What you guys call winter, is what we call summer here in Scandinavia

No, it's not that bad really, but our season is shorter than most of yours. Most of these cars are used with winter tires on.

Back in the days of Noah and the Arch, it was said that it rained for 40 days and 40 nights. That's what we call summer

Get a set of winters, no problem.

This is exactly what i have done and i use my Jeep SRT8 on these days, the rest are on the summer tires. Just don't get caught in any snow, watch the weather channel and your good to go

I've never put no car or sport bike down for the winter. Just a driver/rider adjustment for conditions.
You live in Houston. Rinsing after driving doesn't really work when it's on the underside of a car. As for sport bike...I assure you, you won't like sportbiking in upstate ny winters.

I don't blame you why drive on terrible salty roads when you don't have too! However I do applaud anyone who drives a sports car in the NE when the weather is a mess. I live in NY, and keep all my sports cars in Atlanta where the roads are pretty good and I can drive fast. Sucks living in two states, but I will only drive a SUV in NY. I drive through a land mine going to work daily. When I lived in Mahattan all the sports cars in my building either had bent rims, or ugly dings along with nasty salt stains. Again I applaud winter driving just can't beat up my cars like that.

Great post. I have never put "winter tires" on my E46 M3 or my E60 M5. Just drove it like a "normal car" in the winter and it stayed parked when it snowed. Once the roads were back to asphalt I would drive it like any other car.

I gotta agree with the OP - but everyone's different. No need to be driving around a $100k RWD drive in northern winter especially if you're like me and drive to ski country regularly. I also put my beast away for the season and pulled out my winter car. After last year, I'm glad to have it for the next few months.

Not really sure why everyone is giving you grief about you r decision to keep your M5 pristine in Winter without having to go through hassles. If I lived up there with all that crap they put on the roads I'd do the same and then be delighted to pop open my garage in spring and find my nice low mileage sunny day car :-)

Agree, winters here beat the living shit out of cars. I'd never drive my M in the winter. Mine has been parked for 2 weeks now. Miss my X5M in the winter, that thing was a beast with winter tires.

Since the OP can afford it, I say why not
Love to see a p car blow by people in snowy/ flushy conditions, assuming it is a turbo/4/4s with proper tires

Drove it today in 20 degree weather. Normally the M5 fights for traction in the cold temperature, but the P car has no problem, no need to fight the car for control. Best of all, it corners amazing! The roads were also a bit wet from rain/ light snow.
