A case for tire warranty
I just got two new PSS on the rear of my car today. The left rear woke up with a low tire pressure warning ( for the fourth time in as many months) this morning so I decided to take it in because I am off to Orla to take in some of the frac job this weekend. I didn't want a flat out there for sure. There was also a bulge on the right rear that has shown up in the last few weeks so I pointed that out as well.
So they found a puncture in the left rear and the bulge on the right rear was deemed pothole damage, result, two new tires for $50 each. Can't beat that and they aligned it too. This is three tires on this car in one year due to nails and potholes. I paid $900 for this tire insurance and $1100 for the first one on the 535 where I ended up getting two new tires in three years under the warranty. In both cases the warranty paid for itself. With the 535 the last tire was replaced about two months before I traded for the M5 but on this car, it's three tires in one year. I don't know what the limits of the warranty are but it's paid for. I know a lot of people think this is just part of the extra fluff the dealer makes money selling but it has worked out for me. Another good one is windscreen insurance because the ones on these cars are about $1300. I had to pay for one on my wife's X5 as we picked up a big rock ding outside Lubbock on the way to New Mexico at Christmas. My car insurance covered part of of it since our deductible was $750 but it won't cover tires so maybe not as much a case for the windshield but for sure the tires could be worth it. |

I've had it on my last few vehicles, but never needed it. Declined it this time, as the dealer was trying to screw me on it, and hope I don't need it.
I figured that the tires are about $350/each, so I would have to buy almost an entire set for it to be worth it. |

Well apparently a patch isn't safe so if you pick up a nail, you need a new tire. With the run flats, it was just death to the tire because they cannot be patched. So the run flats were fore sure worth getting it for but I bought it on the M5 just due to our experience in picking up nails in the tires around where I live. As for me, I have replaced three tires in one year which is one tire short of a set. |

Funny you say. Actually thinking about it, the only time I DID use tire coverage was driving on 35 through Round Rock and hit a nail in my X5 and did need to use it! Austin area is the worst for nails.
