Odd Suspension problem...
Scratching my head on this one...
Left rear corner has dropped 25mm (32mm with the fuel topped off), added in a hefty amount of neg camber, cording a relatively new MPSS in less than 400 highway miles. Have not hit any potholes, debris, etc. Anyone seen something like this on their M5? Not looking forward to the dealer visit for this one. |

Something major definitely is wrong and I've never seen anything like this on a non air suspension. Car was aligned not long ago and I definitely have not hit anything. No scuffs, bubbles, or bends and the front seems normal and in spec. Just doing a rough measurement myself:
Ride Height (ground to center of wheel arch - 1/2 tank of fuel) Left Rear: 661mm Right Rear: 686mm Camber: Left Rear: -3.12' Right Rear: -1.41' With the tank full, there isn't much travel remaining to the bump stop. Very surprised there aren't any chassis faults. |

Has to be the alignment or a defective tire.

Yea it sucks donkey balls. My last set looked like that. Both sides. But it was due to bad alignment from BMW. Fucked off perfectly good tired. Had mine recently re alignment on a hunter machine. I also raised up my suspension a bit. So I'm hopi g not to ever see this again.

Here is mine, tire is still 7/32. Lowered and shitty alignment. Got it corrected, hopefully doesn't happen again.

I just followed the DINAN spec sheet. Hoping that fixes it.

Can you recommend a good shop in the area that deals with lowered cars like ours?

Classic BMW in Plano did my lowering & alignment 6000 miles ago and my tires are in good shape so far. They are also a Dinan dealer.

Still down too far and just under 3' neg camber and the only plausible thing left I can come up with for this particular combo is the mounting point on the body deforming. Last edited by lemetier; 10-19-2016 at 11:10 PM.. |

I would be my guess that the toe angle on that wheel is way off, very positive toe. The wheel is probably trying to pull out sideways when you drive causing the suspension to squat. One test you can do is to back up straight for a car length or two and see if it sits right or higher than normal. And after a forward car length it squats again. This would confirm it.
I suspect Either they didn't lock the jam nut on the tie tod, or control arm if there isnt a tie rod, or they didn't align it correctly. Another thing is if you've had the spring replaced recently maybe they forgot to install the rubber bushing at the top... Last edited by DaveCM5; 11-23-2016 at 02:25 PM.. |
