Noise when cold

Are any of you guys getting a loudish whining like noise when the engine is cold? THis is when accelerating but also can be noticed when you down change and the engine is braking the car?

Neil

Yup. Get used to it or .... One cure is to get that aftermarket exhaust to overpower the whining noise.

is it caused by a cold DCT? I don't get that on the M3 though and isn't it the same gear box?

its a shocking noise and amazing that this is supposedly normal.

My car has been at the dealer all week for them to check this out they didn't think it was normal until such time they got another M5 which also appears to do the same thing.

Neil.

If you switch over to D2 or S2/3, the whining noise is not as bad.

That's my personal observation and I rarely drive in D1 or S1 mode, unless I am stuck in traffic.

Unfortunately, No. The whining noise is still there, in some cases, it's just not as loud. (I am refering this situation in D1 mode @ efficiency)

I drive in S3 virtually 100% of the time. I notice the noise on cold start. Once warm, I don't hear it anymore.
