This may be a dumb question but I'm confused An figured I'd ask for clarification. When do you need one of these? I have msr intakes haven't had the car tuned yet. Waiting for dp then tune in the spring. Thanks for clarification in advance

Oil fumes/vapor gets sucked into the combustion chamber, coating the intake walls, leaving carbon deposits on the backside of the valves and ultimately making the car lose power. The S63TU has a better PCV/CCV system than the S63, but both still suck at the end of the day. A catch can takes the oil outta the intake system at the expense of you've gotta empty it every few months. Read the link I posted, it's quiet detailed.

You dont necessarily need one, unless you have excessive oil consumption. Basically the pressure in the crankcase needs to vent, via the PCV valve and is usually rerouted back into intake system. If your PCV valve/system is not working properly (or not designed well), the oil vapors will settle in your intake system, valves, etc and gunk things up. Too much oil traveling through your intake system, and thus the combustion chamber, means your engine will not run efficiently.

So you put an oil catch can between the PCV valve and the intake to capture that oil.

I'm not really sure how efficient the M5 PCV system is, but I do get a little oily residue in my passenger intake pipes.

Did you figure out something on that catch can. I have been looking at routing on my M6 and researching catch cans. Just so many options out there. Are you thinking clear tubing at first to see if flow is actually reaching the catch can. I had to do it that way on the ZR1 at first to make sure my lengths and positioning of the catch can didn't deteriorate flow volume. Just thought you might have gone through the test and tune stage and save me some trouble. Thanks. By the way, lover your build.

A few options have been mentioned earlier to be in process, I'm subscribing to see if anyone has finished development of a set.

Hey Guys,

my M5 is suffering under a lot oil blow-by. Oil consumption is around 1L per 900-1500 KM and sometimes i have a huge big blue cloud behind me. That's why I took the trouble to design a suitable oil catch can. It will be a direct plug and play solution.

Here you can see my breather adapter for the original Mahle-Pipe. From there we go by Dash10 to a 4Port Catch Can and then back to the stock inlet. Price will be around 399 USD, iŽll keep you updated.

Looks good. That's two inlet and two outlet to accommodate both valve covers? Do you have dimensions of the catch can? Pictures installed on your M5 will be great to see when the project is finished. Is there a drain outlet for the catch can? Any cut away diagrams of the can to show us the baffling?
