Driving an M5 in a snow storm with summer tires is NOT an experience to make conclusions from.

It should never happen in the first place.

Buy snow tires and enjoy the car year around. If it dumps 2 feet then take your SUV etc.

I don't understand why people have no trouble buying carbon fiber doo dads and expensive exhausts etc but are too cheap to buy proper winter tires if living in a 4 season climate.
To each is own. I stated my reasons in a little more detail in my most previous post. If you want to put snows on your M5 and get salt all over it, thats your business. Like I said, snows don't turn into a sophisticated AWD car that will drive great in the snow. I never said it could be done, I'm just saying if its snowing hard and I'm looking at my pick-up truck or $100,000+ M5...I'm taking the pick up and beating the balls out of it.

Unfortuantely I live in a condo and only get one spot, and neither my wife nor I drive to work since we walk to the ferry to get Manhattan. Given my situation I put snows on late October and summers back on in May. For me if its snowing out with dirt and salt on the roads, ill just stay home.

After Sandy I was forced to drive to an off site in NJ in my C63 and got caught in a storm with my summer tires on still because of the hurricane. Scariest driving situation Ive ever been in.

I hear ya man. I'm sorry to hear you were in the middle of all that Chaos. I live a hour north of you and as you know that hour more north makes a significant difference in snowfall amount. Most of the time you'll get rain and I'll get snow. Plus you have salters, up here they mix gravel in the with the salt. It's a mess and I hate it.

My point is the only way to avoid getting caught in a storm is either use winters all winter long (prophylaxis) or not drive your car all winter (abstinence).

Just sayin'

How many folks on this board have had good luck with abstinence?

Actually turned out fine, I live on the hudson in nj, so our garage got flooded bad, but thank God my wife moved the car to her parents.

But I do agree with u, salt and sand...bad! If we had a house id def have a 2014 Grand Cherokee.

Gravel, not cool, just like bumper stickers on an M5!

Thank you all for great comments!

Do M5 with MCB gets many looks and stares? Is it too much? maybe I should go with black or something that blends well...

don't you dare refer to them as doo-dads.

If you need 4(or 5) usable seats I would scratch the M6 Coupe off your list unfortunately. You could consider the M6 GC instead, but the M5 will be much more comfortable for the 5th person.

Yes get the Gran coupe if you transport midgets in the back or your children are 2-6 years old but stop growing from that age. Plus make sure you are less than 6 feet tall to drive it.

Yeah that 0.7 inch less headroom and 1.3 inches less legroom in the back on the GC is a real dealbreaker compared to the M5.

"The 6 Series Gran Coupe sits on the same 116.9-inch wheelbase as the F10 5 Series. The 197.2-inch-long 6 Series is 4.1 inches longer. It's also 1.4 inches wider but 2.8 inches lower, thanks in part to the low-slung roof. While that's good for capturing stares from other motorists, interior space is sacrificed. Though front occupants actually gain a half an inch of legroom, rear passengers have to make do with 0.7 inch less headroom and 1.3 inches less legroom in the Gran Coupe than in the 5 Series."

You can throw all the measurements at me you want, but heres what I experienced. First off I think the car is absolutely gorgeous. I drove a 650 gran coupe. I'm 6'1. My hair was touching the headliner. I felt claustrophobic. With the seat adjusted so I can sit in it, a midget, a child, or a leg amputee are the only eligible sized humans that could sit in the back and feel comfortable. They also may have to tilt their heads so avoid touching the headliner in the back.

IMO it's a great car if you typically are driving alone or with a passenger. If you usually take guests or have children I would reconsider this car as a option. My brother has a CLS and it's much more roomier. I have a M5 and it is much bigger inside than the GC despite your measurements.

Can we order M5 with SMB? I thought SMB is M6 only color. If so, how much are we looking at?

I've heard individual colors are around $5000. I presume it can be done. I'm sure someone on here knows.
