How much HP are stock pistons good for on the S63TU?

Looking at getting forged pistons. I'm wondering at what power level on the S63TU they need to be upgraded

I think rods and torque will be an issue more than pistons and power

My recommendation would be to bullet proof the entire engine for any type of mechanical failure. I would check with your builder or RK Autowerks to help you with the decision.

If you're doing forged rods make sure to do pistons and bearings. Make sure they polish and balance your crankshaft with the new forged parts. Bearings, rods and injectors are all common weak points for this platform.

Stock pistons could most likely be reused if changing ring gap but if you're cracking the motor open it would make sense to replace the pistons while apart.

Best of luck with your build.

You might have gotten the answer already, but all I read is that above 700whp, internals need to be upgraded.

Thanks. Do you know how much torque they're good for? The pistons

Built motor with forged internals and minor head work is $20k installed. CP-Carrillo pistons with skirting and dome coating are approximately $1,700 for pistons only. FYI CP-Carrillo pistons and rods along with bearings are just shy of $10k for parts only.

These motors bend rods at stock power levels. If you plan on pushing 25+PSI you're going to need forged rods and pistons.

Velocity Tuning ran over 750whp and wtq on stock internals for over a year before it finally bent a rod i believe. Awesome UK tuner who ran a stock engine to prove a point and win some crowns.

He have had it for 4+ years and whent stage 2 from the get go, and been on stage 4/1000hp for 2 years.

It did not bend a rod, it melted a piston
